I just found out my monthly copay for forteo is 1,312.00 monthly, has anyone found patient assistance thru the manufacturer or foundations? Any advice/info greatly appreciated

I got it for free for two years through the manufacturer. That was 9? Years ago though.

Hi @chickyb, I'd like to invite @barbjo, @leeosteo, @gulfcoastwoman and @naomikrst to this discussion as they have also discussed copay concerns with their medications and may be able to offer some insight into how they proceeded forward.

I am not sure what their qualification requirements are, but it does look as if you can apply for a copay assistance card through them directly, https://www.forteo.com/savings-and-support.

@chickyb, have you been on any other osteoporosis medications in the past? How are you doing on your bone health journey?

I am on traditional Medicare with a BCBS supplement, My husband is still working. I believe I would have qualified for Forteo under Lily Cares if they only counted my income. I had to pay $1500 for the first month , $1000 for the second and now $233 for the rest of the year. It is very expensive, but I was happy not to pay $1500 a month.

I read about this. It was said that this is because Medicare can't negotiate with drug companies. Doesn't seem right.

I’m trying to find out if I can pick up a supplemental plan, my advantage plan has been great for the last 4 years but I never needed a tier 4 or 5 Med. Thanks for the response

Try CVS Specialties pharmacy. If you have a teaching medical center nearby you can attempt to get assistance there as well. These options secure grants from various locations to assist with payment. You have to qualify via an income cap of, I believe, $67,000 for individuals and $87,000 for household. If you have stocks you may be able to reduce income by putting dividends in tax shelters. Perhaps a 529 tax deferred college fund for grands? I’m not an expert so ask a reputable tax lawyer. I can vouch for Teraparatide (Forteo). In last 3 years I had 6 stress fxs and after 10 weeks using it I’m walking without assistance. My general health was suffering from immobility and now I’m exercising regularly again. Good luck!
