Anyone had an ablation done on lower back?

Hello, Melhen!

Yes, I had an RF Ablation for lower back pain about 9 months ago. It worked well, but did not last the last expected twelve months. Personally, I prefer epidural steroid injections as you get immediate results and relief from pain over a wider area, in my opinion.

Good luck with your upcoming procedure.

Blessings!

So sorry that it didn’t last long for you…I had mid back done about 2 months ago, so far, so good, and lower spine in a couples of weeks.
🙏🤞🙏
They told me could last from 3 months to two years…
My doc said that he didn’t want to do too many steroid injections, I have had some over last couple years, as it messes with your bones. I’m 71, have osteopenia and will repeat this process if it works for only 6 months. Maybe the nerves will get the hint at some point and quit! 🤣
Good luck with your treatments!

Was the spinal ablation procedure painful? How long before you felt pain relief from this procedure?

REPLY

Ablation procedure was very painful. It gave me no pain relief.

That’s discouraging to hear.

I have had a few lumbar ablations and numerous epidurals. I have gotten relief from both of them in a couple days. I never found them painful. I always had IV sedation for both procedures. The relief generally lasted about 4-6 months. I hadn't heard of ablations until after my first back surgery. My last ablation a year ago didn't help. I was told by the pain clinic that it can take up to a month to get relief. I didn't follow up as other things started to happen with my back. I had major surgery on my lower vertebrae mid May.
I would have another ablation if needed as I would prefer not to have an epidural because of the steroids.

I too had sedation with my ablation, but it was still quite painful.

My husband had ablation a couple weeks ago and not much relief yet.

My ablation wasn't painful, I had adequate sedation. Unfortunately it didn't work. I have friends that have had good results for a period of time.
