Constant Diarrhea
Anyone here have constant diarrhea? I practically live on lomotil pills. I know my nerves play somewhat of a role but not always. Some days I live in the bathriom.
I have never had a diagnosis for my problem.

Have you been checked for Celiac Disease?
Or Crohn's? I have had sudden bouts of bad diarrhea lately and have found ordinary canning pectin a superb way to shut it down without keeping any pathogens which might be contributing within your body. Remembered my mother scrapping a raw apple to give my baby sister when she had diarrhea.
I am also taking Meta Mucil and it has helped a lot
How much do you take..Orange or plain..how do you mix?
Have you tried eliminating certain foods from your diet. I’ve had a colon resection and one your later had COVID. I believe I have long haul COVID issue. I take Immodium about once or twice a week.
I elevated wheat bread from my diet and my stomach issue is so much better.
While trying to figure out how to end the diarrhea, please take care of your nutritional needs since the diarrhea can lead to malnutrition: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23384810/
Try replacing ammonium with pectin (the kind you make jams and jellies with) say 1 TBS in small cup of water. Easier on your microbiome and gut and ushers our any pathogen while nonetheless stopping you up quite safely. I find it works like a charm.
in reply to @suzanne2 I too have this problem and also use lomotil. I have a host of other problems, and it has been suggested that I undergo another colonoscopy to determine if my ulcerative colitis has returned or not. Having said this, the constant diarrhea is exhausting in so many ways. I am so sorry about your problem. The stomach doctor wants me to take over the counter products on a regular basis in an effort to control the diarrhea, but it does not work for me. He has also suggested I take Bentyl around the clock, but I don't want to do this either because it makes me sleepy. I take it when I need it.
I understand that one's diet may be a contributing factor, but I have not found the perfect meal yet. I hope that you do. Best of luck

Hello @paulhernandez and Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I know from personal experience what constant diarrhea can do to your life. My neurologist thought it was a reaction to my immunosuppressant medication, but a gastroenterologist said it was pancreatic enzyme deficiency. Anyway a colonoscopy was done which did show the pancreatic insufficiency. So now i take medication with every meal.

I would strongly suggest that you find a good gastroenterologist before the diarrhea causes you to loose too much weight.
Can you ask your primary care doctor for a referral to a gastroenterologist?
