I take senna. But seldom have the not going problem. When I do dieters tea is senna normally but do brew too long till you try a time or two as the longer you brew the stronger it works.

When mine was resectioned I was told to put miralax in a cup of coffee. I was doing so on a daily basis for awhile, but I would definitely reach out to your Dr immediately before doing anything we tell you. Don’t wait!

Maybe something gentle like prune juice? How about a cup of coffee. Good luck!

Had colectomy 3 weeks ago. My bowel movements are now very very small though it feels like a lot at the time. Is this just a new normal? Stage 1.

Hello @phoebs1976 and welcome to Mayo Connect. You ask a good question. As you can see, your post was moved to this existing discussion thread on this same topic. Whenever there is a surgery to any part of the digestive tract, eating and bowel movements tend to change.

How is your diet? Are you able to eat comfortably? Are you drinking fluids on regular basis?

Have you contacted the surgeon to see what your expectations should be?

Prior to having a colectomy with partial removal of my rectum and sigmoid, I experienced bloating during chemo. The oncologist ordered an ultrasound and concluded that it was due to my meds, but that had never happened before and I was experiencing all sorts of weird side effects during chemo. I reached out to my PCP and he Rx'd Reglan, which stimulates the upper intestine to keep things moving. That did the trick. If you try OTC stuff, make sure you know what it is for (upper vs lower intestine). I am guessing that your problem is with the upper.
