@whyme123 My endocrinologist just prescribed Evenity for 12 months that will be followed by Zolendronate. I am in the osteopenia range (-1.5) after taking Fosomax for 5 years however since I stopped the Fosomax I had radiation therapy to the pelvic region for endometrial cancer. I experienced a fracture of the sacrum (lower spine) that was related to the radiation therapy.

I had no side effects from Fosomax. My mother had osteoporosis and was frail with many compression fractures and pain by the time she was my age (I’m now 71 years old). I do everything I can to maximize bone density and health so I I do not have the quality of life experience that my mother had. I did not hesitate on agreeing to start on Evenity. If there are side effects I’ll talk with my endocrinologist. I am doing everything I can with diet and exercise to optimize bone health and if Evenity prevents future fractures then that’s a huge bonus.

I think whether or not to take Evenity or any such medication is an individual decision a person must make given their risk factors and a conversation with their doctor. In retrospect, I wish I had seen an endocrinologist years ago when I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis. You are doing the right thing by consulting with a specialist (endocrinology) in bone health.

What do you think you will do? Will you talk with your doctor again?

Thank you very much

I just started Evenity for a spine T score of -4.6. I am also 71 and in good shape. Have always worked out including weights. I walk and still jog. I also take no prescription medication. I wish I would of addressed this issue before it got this bad. I thought due to my healthy lifestyle I could fix this.
This was the med of choice from my endocrinologist. I started Evenity last month.

I’m going to wait until spring to decide and try to get a 2 nd opinion. I did not feel confident in my doctor’s answers. In the meantime I will continue to work on weight loss, improving diet, keep increasing my walking and weight bearing exercises and vitamin/ calcium intake.
