why do I suddenly fall?

Why do I suddenly fall? I'll be walking along and my legs collapse. Any idea why? I do not have MS, Parkinsons, or any other defined disease.

It could be central canal stenosis. You might ask for a lumbar MRI. Changes in the spine can cut off circulation to the lower limbs when you are in certain positions. https://www.spine-health.com/blog/why-domylegssuddenlygiveout#:~:text=A%20feeling%20of%20sudden%20leg,condition%20requiring%20immediate%20medical%20attention.

My mother had petite mall seizures many years ago where she would be walking and suddenly collapse. I vaguely recall as an 8 y.o. (1959) walking on a shopping trip with her and she just fell in the middle of the street. Eventually she was diagnosed with seizures well before any modern drugs were available I believe. You should see a neurologist.

I have seen several. No one knows what's wrong with me--seizures were never suggested as a cause because I have no other symptoms, I just fall.

It is not vasovagal syncope is it? That is a faint caused by a trigger (med student at the sight of blood in the stereotypical case). In my case it seems to be dehydration. No lightheadedness or premonition in my case. I have had 4 such events since 1997 when I was very dehydrated from norovirus.

have you checked out Lyme?

I haven't fallen, but sometimes it is a close thing if I have gone a long way or am dehydrated. I take water bottles with 1/2 package of Propel with me to keep up the electrolytes. I can also say that, I did find one side was stronger than the other and so went to PT to even things out.

You don’t mention your age and I wonder if you’ve got balance issues that may be contributing to your falling. Just a thought.

It is more of a fatigue thing with MCTD. I have been to PT for all the good exercises and balance training and I keep those going. I am 71 this year, and I certainly have noticed the increased need for maintenance of strength! I appreciate your concern...;o)

@marye2 Im glad you are continuing your home exercises to maintain your strength so in case you fall your muscles will protect your bones. Exercising and maintaining my core has been very beneficial as my body deteriorates. Last time I fell was 2 years ago and lucky for me I didn’t break anything. I go to PT when ever I have the need.

Yes, me too. My favorite PT with orthopedic experience retired, but eventually will find a new one.
