PRP Injection for left and right gluteal tendon tear
I am 10 days out from a PRP injection in Left hip. 8 months ago y chair collapsed and I fell backwards. Urgent Care x ray reveals no tail bone fracture but needed a special pillow to sit on due to pain in that area. Stopped daily yoga class, and started warm water pools aerobics, continued walking 2 to 3 miles on off days. Fast forward to August and after seeing 3 doctor, this current one is a pain specialist, it has been revealed that I have gluteal tendon tears on left and right. Pain has been increasing incrementally. Evidently, Left hip is elevated above right hip. Plan is to also perform PRP injection on right hip in about 2 weeks. Unable to bend over(causes hours of pain and pain down left leg). Doctor thinks left may need another PRP injection before this whole episode begins to improve.

MD wanted to use entire plasma supply for (worst) hip. Originally was planning to use 1/2 supply for each hip, one procedure. Now, second hip treatment is pending
Bath IS the pain reliever and an occasional Extra Strength Tylenol. Lying on ice pack also helps.
Both my sis and a good friend had both knees done, within a year and both are doing great…feel like they have a life back!!!
I can totally appreciate how you feel about not wanting surgery-don’t know your age, but they are both somewhat younger than me…one like 60 other like 63
You are lucky you can sit in the bathtub! Heat is delicious but I need a microwave pad…and I’m so happy that you get such good relief from the water
thank you @ch47 and I am grateful for all of your support
Ask about sciatica. I had pain down my leg that turned out to be the sciatic nerve.
Also, if your hips are no level ask about your SI
Joint. Many doctors do not believe the SI Joint can move but it does and can be the cause off unequal hip alignment.
Good luck with PRP. Whether or not prolotherapy or PRP works has something to do with the state of your internal healing system and whether or not it can be turned on high!
I agree with all of your points. I do think my SI joint is out of alignment. Will receive an adjustment shortly from an osteopath.
Hopefully my internal healing system is intact and working well as I have been a healthy person. Not being able to exercise right now is a waiting game.
If you do find that the SI Joint is an issue ... it can create collateral damage to ligaments that keep the pelvis in line. For that ... prolotherapy worked really well for me. The "Lax" ligament tightened although it took 10 days for me to heal that ligament. Not an unusual self healing time ....
I also still do the knee to the chest which seems to reallign the joint when it is slightly off ... and stretching the illiopsoas by hanging a leg off the edge a high bed while lying on your back
Good luck
I just had PRP injections 2 days ago for gluteal minimus and gluteal medius tendon tears. I can't believe how much the pain has increased since the injections! I am trying to remain positive even though I know it is a long process. How long after did you start to notice a reduction in pain? I am using a walker and putting very little pressure on right leg, but I don't have great upper body strength. I always walked 3-5 miles a day, but didn't do a lot of upper body. I'm 70 years old and in pretty good shape. Barb
I have three tears in the right hip - no idea how it happened. I am 76 and not athletic and never was. I have spine issues, two fusions, and assumed all the pain and weakness was from the spine. MRIs clearly show the hip problem I am starting pt today and there was a discussion about possible prp down the road. If I were an athlete they would do surgery now. Interested in your journey with prp. My numeric age is not representative of who I am and as much as I am not a big fan of surgeries I will opt for it if nothing else works. It's a quality of life issue for me. Thoughts anyone?
