PRP Injection for left and right gluteal tendon tear

Posted by noelles @noelles, Sep 1, 2023

I am 10 days out from a PRP injection in Left hip. 8 months ago y chair collapsed and I fell backwards. Urgent Care x ray reveals no tail bone fracture but needed a special pillow to sit on due to pain in that area. Stopped daily yoga class, and started warm water pools aerobics, continued walking 2 to 3 miles on off days. Fast forward to August and after seeing 3 doctor, this current one is a pain specialist, it has been revealed that I have gluteal tendon tears on left and right. Pain has been increasing incrementally. Evidently, Left hip is elevated above right hip. Plan is to also perform PRP injection on right hip in about 2 weeks. Unable to bend over(causes hours of pain and pain down left leg). Doctor thinks left may need another PRP injection before this whole episode begins to improve.

Bless you for keeping on movin’ on!
Of course your doc is right, and sounds like you may have to back off for a bit to let the tears heal, and find out how soon you can have your next PRP. Also Ask him when you can start some very very gentle water therapy, so it give you something to look forward to. Is there an alternate form of moving around he could recommend to keep your strength?
I did so much PT, that it did cause some other issues, tears etc.
But again, the PRP did work, but need patience…
My best to you…😘

MD has suggested just walking in warm pool but no more water aerobics. Pain is increasing on both sides and finding myself less active, which is rare for me. Doc also has noticed that one hip is higher than the other and so am going in for a gentle adjustment by osteopath in 5 days. Hips Band which I was wearing seems to increase the pain as it holds the muscles still and prevents circulation. Have stopped both the Serola Biomechanics and the Invisicare braces as more pain is intolerable.

Hah! I can see where the MFAT is more invasive…PRP is easy.
Glad you got the different opinions and prices, also the test to show what/where the problems really are.
I paid 1000 for one PRP procedure several years ago…I asked why so pricey, answer was that when they centrifuge the blood, there is a special filter that is used, and can only be used once. And it was expensive…
Good luck with the MFAT, and PRP!!!!! please let me know how things work out for you both, and looking forward to hearing about you do with the MFAT long term. Ask lots if questions and post what the doctor says!!!
Thanks and hugs

I hate to even suggest this as I am not a medical professional,
( just years of spending time with them…🤣 ) but how does gentle, even surface walking feel? Maybe a warm/heated pack for 10-15 minutes on ouchie places, then a gentle, short, walk around? The heat will get the blood flowing.
Walking in water is great for resistance, but maybe until you get your hip adjusted and heal a little more, you could take it a little easier? And still be moving?
I’m praying for some relief for you…

It was a direction for me to avoid heat, cold, all medications for the first week but now about 3 X /week I take a warm bath and it is a strong pain reliever. I am 12 days post procedure and think now, it will take Patience and Hope. Right hip PRP soon and will see MD IN 9 days to discuss further treatment. Thank you for your thoughtful and helpful replies. I am a retired Registered Nurse so do have tools and understanding of the medical world.

The “kit” used in the PRP injection costs $400, so that is deducted from physician’s profit.

Can they use the same kit for processing two different blood draws for the same patient? One for each side? If not, I wonder if that is why price went up…

They liposuction some fat from you then inject that into the affected joint. I don’t know if they mix anything else with that. It is more invasive than PRP. It is also out of pocket and relatively new so long term stats are nonexistent

Too bad you had that experience I paid 2000 for both knees had great luck with right but left is too bad the MFAT will be 3500 but I am still going for it because I don’t want a replacement

I know how difficult these decisions are. I had a knee replacement in 2007 and it has been great! Long road to healing and yes a difficult surgery. But no regrets
