I’m sorry you had such trouble with the meds. Almost 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with MAC. My first doctors put on the standard medication regimen. Honestly I can’t remember all of the meds I took, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same ones that most ppl take. I kept having problems with some of them. (Rash, itching, then problems walking and balance, then upset stomach and lots of UTIs, also being so tired and having either no appetite at all, or being hungry all the time…) I took different ones for nine months. The doctors finally decided they were too toxic and took me off all of them. I then went to MUSC in Charleston, SC where the doctors there did not put me back on anything. Yes, you can get rid of MAC and have it come back. I’ve not had any antibiotics for the MAC, only a couple of times when I had the flu, which is complicated by the MAC. That was not a problem. Good luck on your journey. I have not missed the meds. I don’t think I’ve suffered from not taking them. I do use a nebulizer with saline and Albuterol solution, but that’s about it.

Hi there! I so much appreciate your sharing your experience with me. It means the world to me. I’ve benefited greatly from those of you who have responded to my blog about the meds. I know that I am not alone in the choice I have made. God bless and good health to you always! Bon

Hi dreher. I can relate to your situation of trial and error with the meds. I also want to comment on your statement about not remembering the meds you've taken. I'm not sure anyone can think back to remember names, dosages, reaction--but it is important. I keep a running diary on my computer to track such things. I can do a search by medication, illness or doctor. It has helped me out on many occasions. I know your doctor would appreciate knowing your history. Also, of course a list of current medications and of meds you're absolutely allergic to. I keep mine updated in the computer and also a current printed copy in my purse when I go to an appointment. The medical staff has commented that it makes their life easier. Blessings to you.
