My rheumatologist put me on Prednisone and Hydroxychloroquine for PMR 3-1/2 years ago. After a few flareups I took my last Prednisone 5 days ago. So far so good. A little stiffness in my right shoulder when trying to get out of bed,, but it dissipates after I'm up.. I'm holding my breath every morning hoping the symptoms don't come back. For an 81 year old I figure I'm doing okay.

I am 82 years old. I had PMR 23 years ago and was on prednisone for three years. Now the PMR has returned after 20 years, and I am back on a long, low-dose taper for about a year. The doctor wants me to take hydroxychloroquine with the prednisone, but after seeing the possible side effects I decided to delay the latter because of possible depression. My oldest, closest friend just died at age 99, and I think I need to wait to see if I am just sad or if my sadness just passes without my getting depressed.
