Scar help? Anything to help them fade or smooth out?

Posted by frogjumper @frogjumper, Aug 25, 2023

In April I had lumpectomy and breast reduction. It's healed but the scars are still quite obvious which is to be expected. What I want to know is what did anyone use that helped fade and smooth them. Currently I use silicone scar tape on them but I'd like to know if anyone has had luck with Vitamin E oils or Bio Oil etc. What worked and didn't work for you? Thanks in advance for any advice 🙂

Do you mind me asking where you purchased it? It is just called a lymphedema pad?

No, my lymphedema and swelling is in my breast and under my arm. I purchased a pad that helps compress that area.

Where did you find the pad and what is it called?

The pad is called "Swell spot" and can be purchased at Compression Guru.com or Amazon. The price is comparable. I have used it with a compression camisole and a front opening sports bra.

Thanks! My surgery is not till the 26th of September. I’m hoping not to have issues with lymphedema.

I hope you don't s as well. Since I had radiation, my skin and scar are what they are. Tougher, harder to heal. I had a lift on my noon cancer side and the scarring is smooth and getting more invisible I hope that is your case. Good luck with your surgery and healing

Thanks. I had radiation 12 years ago and have been told it will take longer for my upcoming mastectomy to heal.

For me, time has been the best event of my scars from the mastectomy, radiation, Deip-Flap, and then lift/reduction on the other side. Those were 2021 and 2022, and here in 2023 I look and feel a lot better than a few months out .

Hugs!

I just had a mastectomy and my scar is too tender to do any massaging. I am tempted to try what my podiatrist recommended for the scar after foot surgery. He said to buy vitamin E softgel and poke a hole in it to release the oil and rub that on my scar. That really helped!
