I just had Colpocleisis surgery, I am 4 days post op. At this point I can only speak to my experience so far which though short, I can say that the surgery went well. The only problem encountered so far was that I was unable to urinate for a couple days after surgery and had to go home with a Foley catheter. The problem for me was that my tissues were very swollen. I was told that the Foley would be taken out at my doctor's office the following day (Friday). I left a message with my doctor but did not hear back from her. By Friday night I was so irritated (literally and figuratively) that I decided to take it out myself. Dr. Google told me how to do it and it was very simple. I felt much better after it was gone but then immediately afterwards I found that I could not control my urine. I went back to Dr. Google and learned that this often happens when a catheter is removed and usually can gain control 24 to 48 hours later. I am doing well now and will try to remember to come back with comments 6 months from now. A little history, 6 months ago I had a hysterectomy due to stage 4 bladder prolapse and rectocele. 1 month after my hysterectomy I felt like my prolapse returned - it was my rectocele repair that failed. That was when I decided that Colpocleisis surgery was the way to go. I will let you know of my progress in 6 months.
