I have seen 3 neurologist all have suggested I have physical therapy for balance, but this has not relieved my numbness in my feet and toes and burning when I’m asleep. I have tried to to get an appt. With one of Mayo Clinic’s neurologist but have been turned down, at this point I am at a loss of what to do next. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank u.

I've had Neuropathy for close to 40 years, a good many of those years was numbness.
As I understand it there is no treatment for numbness although I wonder if some supplements might that are on the N
I went to PT for balance training and like you it didn't help. if memory serves, I have read that balance exercises has helped some people.
Here is a list of some alternative options from the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy.

I believe that if an effective treatment were available one of the Neurologists would have recommended it.
Do you know what level your neuropathy is?
Take care,
Jake

Hello @anthonyfesposito, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @jakedduck1 and others. I have numbness with my neuropathy but don't have any burning or pain during the day or at night. I'm pretty sure you are not alone with your symptoms. Probably the best thing you can do for yourself is to learn as much as you can about your diagnosis and any available treatments that may provide some relief. I think the physical therapy for balance is a good thing but I'm guessing that is not what is bothering you the most about your symptoms. I thought you might find this article on burning feet helpful if you haven't already seen it. The article lists some home remedies towards the end of the information.

You mentioned having seen 3 neurologists. Have they provided you with a diagnosis or suggested any other treatments beside physical therapy for balance?

Hi Tony, I also have the burning feet, legs etc.
There is nothing that will cure it. The only recourse is medication. We can go to 100 neurologist and get told the same things. The doctors know that they can’t cure neuropathy so they have created things to divert our attention like PT for balance.
Our balance can not possibly change. I feel like I am walking on potatoes! Balance exercises cannot possibly make that better.
Tony, nice chatting with a real baseball legend!

@anthonyfesposito Hi Tony - you are 89 years old, play baseball 3 times a week and golf a few times as well. That is unbelievable! Congrats to you! You manage to do what many of us are unable to do. I have balance issues due to numbness and my doc has me in and out of PT for improved balance. To be honest, I'm not sure it helps but that could be in my case. And that is sort of the problem because Medicare will pay if there is improvement. I've been in and out for about 6 years. I know the exercises and do them at home 2 - 3 times a week when not in PT. My suggestion, just keep doing what you're doing and perhaps some supplements can help with current issues. Also, you have nothing to lose by giving PT a try. That is, if you have time between baseball and golf. I am impressed!! Ed

Mayo is extremely overbooked. Don’t worry about not being accepted by them.

I assume neurologist have performed Many tests including blood tests for b12 for deficiency or b6 for toxicity. Many doctors in US do not test for b6 toxicity. If you take any supplements that contain b6 or eat a very high b6 diet that can cause small fiber neuropathy even at lower doses. Socks with gel pads that you keep in freezer are great help for burning feet in evening. Your active life is probably helping to ward off balance issues etc. Continue to stay active. Best wishes and hope you find answers.
