I had a total hip replacement in January. I had outpatient PT twice a week for about 2 1/2 months . Yes, i could walk with a walker the day of surgery, but it was not easy. I used a walker for 10-14 days. PT at the surgery center recommended a grabber to pick things iff the floor and another contraption to help put my socks on. They also recommended a elevated toiled seat. I got everything but the elevated toilet seat. I put the walker in front of the toilet and used it to help me up and down . Physical therapy is essential.

Expect stiffness and some pain initially...more stiffness. But if you ice alot the pain and stiffness won't be as much. Iceing is the Key. It keeps down the swelling which keeps down the pain and stiffness. Wiggle your toes alot to be sure of no blood clots. Move around and walk as much as you can. If you sit too much, it takes longer to heal.
