My thirteen year old granddaughter has severe femoral anteversion. She is afraid of corrective surgery. Has anyone had a similar experience or suggestions?
Hello @myoldbones. I see you also posted this discussion in About Kids & Teens and I have combined them both to this discussion in Bones, Jones & Muscles support group. You mentioned that your granddaughter was 13-years-old. Here is some information on femoral anteversion, https://www.childrenshospital.org/conditions/femoral-anteversion.
It mentions that around 99% of cases gradually improve on their own, but that in some rare cases surgery is needed to correct severe anteversion. According to that source, your granddaughter would be in the age range that would normally have seen some improvement over time. Has she been monitored on how she has progressed over the years and has surgery been suggested to her as a result?
Thanks so much for responding. It seems as if very little is said about the 1% who do not improve over time. Yes, surgery has been mentioned but, to my knowledge, not gently encouraged the way that I would have liked. I believe after talking with a physical therapist that as she gets older the stress on her body with the bones will begin to be painful for her. I was hoping that there might be people who have had some experience with the surgery and could comment on how it has been beneficial for them. Thanks for connecting and forwarding your information. I appreciate your response.
