My criteria for a surgeon worked well for me, but are certainly not foolproof. There is no excuse for placing a prosthesis that doesn't fit. My surgeon explained that the prosthesis should not go past the surface of the bone. That is, there should be a small space between the edge of the bone and the edge of the prosthesis. This can be seen clearly on the X-rays.

My TKR was also done with the Stryker/Mako robotic assistant. I'm very sorry about what you are going through.

Mine on X-rays and florascope shows not much if any fat or muscle around the implant. You can see a ligament, in between the top and bottom. You can see a haze of the plastic piece I the back of the knee. This clicks when on the bike. I hold it in the gym till I get to full speed at 9. Yes, it’s a piece of work.
