IBS: How to get rid of or ease the symptoms?

Posted by vkzwkansas @vkzwkansas, Oct 23, 2011

I have tried about everything to get rid or ease the symptoms of IBS. I have had a colonoscopy, celiac test, ultra sound on uterus, endoscopy, food allergy test, etc. I had my gallbladder removed and that helped some. I have tried probiotics, dicyclomine, imodium, colestipol, staying away from wheat and corn products. Right now I am taking Aloecure and that isn't helping. Nothing seems to help ease the symptoms. Imodium will take care of the diarrhea when that is the problem but I still have to deal with multiple bowels movements and feeling of still having to go all day long, every day. Does anyone have any other ideas of what a person could try?

I got alot of good tips from a dietician and seems I got no fiber in my diet as I was eating lots of fruit and vegetables. She said go organic also as everything nowadays is sprayed with some insecticide GMO's. She also gave me a really good probiotic and peppermint oil . We shall see.

Is your life stressful? If so that is a huge contributor. I cut lactose out of my diet completely and that helped a lot. Also my gastro guy suggested taking Metamucil which sounds counterintuitive but man did it help. I take one teaspoon everyday with water. You might need to take twice a day, but do it very slowly. Build up your intake. Like a quarter tsp for a couple days, then 1/2 for at least a week then one tsp a day and then see if that helps. Go from there. Be careful not to get the flavored one it actually has apertame in it. Which is awful for your gut among other things.

I’m healthy except for IBS that has no ‘absolute’ triggers.

I was told to eat binding food for breakfast; white rice,
bananas, white toast, but I fall off the wagon by eating tasty whole wheat products. I teach Tai Chi so often I wait to eat after class.

I have IBS-C. Sometimes my abdomen is so distended that I look nine months pregnant. It is much worse when I am under stress. Linzess helps me a lot.

I just realized that linaclotide is Linzess. Sorry. I take 145 mcg but may ask for higher dose.
