I was also on HRT for 6 years and had low risk of breast cancer- none in my family, no smoking and not overweight. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years after stopping the HRT. I guess I'll never know if it was the HRT that caused my cancer but I would stay away from it if you can.
I was on a low dose HRT for 2 years immediately following menopause because at the time I had osteopenia (never had menopause symptoms). After the 2nd year I developed breast precancer (required surgery and now have ugly scars) and had to stop HRT because doctor said it can be a cause of cancer. I had no risk factors, no one in family with breast cancer, never smoked, not overweight. I am sorry I ever took HRT.
I do have that same concern, especially since my mother had breast cancer. Thank goodness hers was caught early ( and that was in the late 1950’s). She had a mastectomy with no further treatment and did not have a reoccurrence.
