Anyone use Albuterol inhalers
Picking mine up tomorrow, just curious about side effects of any by users and frequent use. I hope it really opens up my air ways, not a fan of waking up by choking, coughing, suffocating. I just want to know if side effects are really extreme.

I use a rescue inhaler from time to time. It opens up the lungs quickly. Be sure to rinse your mouth out after use. Have had no problems. Do not use Symbicort to maintain asthma. I rarely wheeze. I do think it's time to rethink maintenance though. Hope this helps! Good luck.
Good morning. I also use an Albuterol rescue inhaler. If you use it according to the directions and rinse your mouth after each use you should not have any issues. If you don't rinse each time you could get mouth sores. I have mine with me at all times for quick relief. I also have tesalon pearls, and I use 2 pills as needed for cough, especially before bedtime. They also help with the cough. Good luck.
I have used one, as needed, for years. I do not like to be contradictory, but I believe that some of the answers may be incorrect about rinsing your mouth. I believe it is the steroid inhalers that you really need to rinse out. You may want to check that out for yourself, as I have sometimes been mistaken in life.
The only real side effects of albuterol that I have noticed are a slightly elevated heart rate and voice problems when I used it often. My pulmonologist gave me a spacer. There are spacers that are rigid and he also gave me a little flexible one to keep in my purse. It is really a simple device, but it helps you inhale more of the medicine instead of having it hit the back of your throat. I do notice it bothering my voice less since I use the spacer.
My husband has lung cancer and has used an Albuterol inhaler for many years; probably at least 12 years. He had no problems until recently. He has gotten severe hoarseness. On the Mayo Clinic website I found that both Albuterol inhalers and nebulizers which he takes, can cause hoarseness. As do three other medicines he also takes which are Ipratropium, Metformin and Flovent. We are in the process now of working with the Primary Care doctor and the Cancer doctor to figure out how to deal with this situation.

pml, I don't know if you noticed my comment, but a spacer may help a little bit with the hoarseness if he is not using one yet. I have that difficulty too.
Rinse with just water? Nobody has told me this before, not even the Dr's who prescribed my inhaler & nebulizer.
Hi Nrocpop,
What is a spacer? I've never heard of it and the doctors didn't mention it. If it helps with hoarseness that would be great! Today, the cancer doctor said my husband could stop his Flovent which he really doesn't need. The primary care doctor stopped the Metformin also. So, maybe that will work. But if not, he could try the spacer.
Thanks so much!

Your pcp can get you a spacer. And remember to inhale and hold your breath for 5 seconds so the nedication can really soak into your lungs. Wait 1 minute between doses.
A spacer is just a little tube that you stick the inhaler in and you breathe through the other side. The pulmonologist just gave me one. I don’t think they would be expensive or anythjng
