Yes, my genes are a mixed bag...my mom lived to be 97, her dad 97, but her mom had cholesterol and heart issues. (lot of ignorance back then/unknowns with health)
I try to stay positive, pray, eat cleaner. I use an app from a guy on youtube, Bobby Parrish, who looks into so many products in most supermarkets and explains the oils and what's good or bad in them. I'm not 100% buying totally clean ingredient products but it helped me a lot making choices and seeing some protein bars (most) weren't very healthy and I feel so much better with fruit being my treat than sugar laden foods. Cut way down on gas, bloat, tiredness etc.
I got an apple watch for Xmas that reminds me to stand and move at work, I try to do 30 min of exercise 6 days a week of some kind. If I can do more I will but I needed to set a limit.
I am still looking for more positive people to be around, it is sad how as you grow older, more become sullen and depressed even without obvious reason. I do believe like you it helps a lot.

Hi again
I live in a senior community also and so many of the residents really look and act their age. I am not embarrassed to tell my age and I get looks when I do and comments that I do not look my age. Well, heck yeah! That is all because of how I think of food and also I am thankful for everything I have and all I have done and I have 3 great grown children who are pretty well balanced in life and all are happy people. They grew up with good foods and still eat well due to that I think.
I am fine with making friends online and think that we can seek out those with whom we will resonate. The internet is really an amazing tool for that. You just do not brush off anything that is said that causes a red flag to go up in your brain.
The reason I am on this site is because I am a big fan of the people at Mayo Clinic. I have been there several times myself. The care is exceptional as is everyone I interacted with during my few times there. The Mayo Brothers had a beautiful philosophy and that I believe is the main reason it is what it is.
So here's to a healthy life going forward and perhaps some new friends as well.
Stay safe and keep smiling.
