Erosive osteoarthritis pain but can't take NSAIDS

Posted by chris7121 @chris7121, Jul 1, 2023

I have erosive osteoarthritis and because of a heart attack, I'm on a blood thinner and not allowed to take anti inflammatories /NSAIDS. Tylenol no longer helps. Any suggestions for alternative sources of pain relief are most welcome!

I'm so sorry you are going through this! Where is your EOA? I have it in my hands. It's terrible and I won't do meds for fear of it affecting other organs. There is no help. It's painful and exhausting daily. I'm tired all the time. Absolutely no solutions offered.
Prayers

Have you tried CBD? Comes in rub on and pill form. I found it after I was sent home from a bad hip operation with a 3 month's supply of Oxi! When the brain started feeling goofy I had to find something else!

I find heat helps. I have balls that I can heat in the microwave and hold in my hands and massage that help
My hands. I keep a heating pad on the back of my recliner for my spine. Do Terra essential oils makes a blend called Deep Blue that I use on my knees. My pain is tolerable with these things. For me, everyone is different.

I have a very helpful website about alternative pain treatment that has lots of information, products and providers. Many pain patients have found it very helpful. It's https://www.paintreatmentdirectory.com

For a rub in I use Oragel which was recommended by the Chiropractor. I rub it in once a day on my lumbar spine, legs, knees. it lasts all day. I find it great and maybe could help someone else.

One of my most awesome tools is a paraffin hand bath. Mine is the original Homedics model from eons ago, but many types are still available. I keep mine plugged in and covered on the counter in my second bathroom.

Here is how I use it for maximum effect:
Heat my microwaveable heating pad and wrap it in a heavy towel.
Wash and dry my hands thoroughly & remove jewelry.
Paraffin my hands and wrists (I use 4-7 dips, until the heat starts to penetrate) & slip them into plastic bags.
Put my hands on the hot pad, inside the towel, and watch a movie or video for 15-20 minutes.
When the paraffin begins to cool, I peel it off my hands, roll it up, and use it to do some squeezing exercises.
Massage a soothing cream into my now-softened skin.
Aaah!

Caution - do not put the paraffin back and reuse it - even if you are the only one using the spa. It can become a breeding ground for very nasty bacteria.

Sometimes, especially in bad weather, I will get up in the middle of the night and do this if my hands are really bad. It also works on my arthritic elbow, and I have even used it on my feet at times!

I made CBD oil with the leaves of my MJ plant by soaking the leaves in mineral oil for a few days and then rubbing it on my sore chest from the mastectomy. It killed the pain for the day.

Sounds like a lot of work ... CBD is available online from several sources. Mine come from Curtsconcentrates.com. It comes in oil form, cream and tincture. Be sure to get something with at least 500MG strength.
