While meds have their place, I believe starting with what I can do MYSELF First: wholesome food to stave off mental health problems including anxiety and depression. In fact there has been in the news much coverage recently about the connection of Ultra Processed Foods with health problems from mental to physical such as cancer not to mention excessive muscle atrophy, heart, blood sugar levels and obesity. But I'll start with Mayo:

Hi
This is a great question and always looking for natural alternatives to medication is great.
Its pretty hard to really give much advice on this since social and medical factors definitely play into anxiety and I obviously dont know those.

I dont know what medications you have tried in the past, or what type of anxiety you have , but things like Cognitive behavioral therapy among others can be helpful for some kinds of anxieties , including OCD etc.

I know some people have good luck with low doses of medications like propranolol or Atenolol for anxiety. Those are actually beta blockers but are used for anxiety and sometimes tremors as well.

Its great you are putting focus on your health and diet. I agree we have too many chemicals in everything we eat drink and do. Im sure it plays a role is so many things.

I would only caution you if you plan to start new supplements or herbal additions to check with your physician if you have other underlying medical conditions or take other medications. Sometimes even the most innocent over the counter medication or supplement can cause a problem for certain people. Always good to check. 🙂

This is especially true for things like Melatonin, Ashwagandha, St Johns Wort, CBD tinctures and oils , among others.

Do your own research too. What works for one person may not work for another. You know your body the best.

Just dont let all the research and desire to make these changes turn into another source of anxiety for you. It can be overwhelming when you dive down that rabbit hole and start really looking at what is your food and things you can change. Pace yourself, make small changes , little steps lead to bigger ones and eventually you get there! 🙂
