Has anyone stopped Evinity before a yr ?

Posted by dreamjean1958 @dreamjean1958, Aug 1, 2023

I have been on Evinity for 6 months. My Dr may be taking me off . Getting really bad side affects. They last for a week . Not sure if I should live with it or Stop. I’ll be put on something else. He did mention . With Evinity. The first 6 months. Are your most benefit. What do most of you take after Evenity ? Reclast sounds good . But you can’t have any dental work.
I’m just so confused . I can’t take Forteo . Already used it . Thanks

Yes dreamjean, I stopped Prolia after one shot 2 years ago after my dental specialists told me too get off them immediately. My bone graft didn’t integrate after I had a tooth pulled along with infections & pain where I still can’t eat on one side. They told me it was the Prolia. I had none of these bad side effects we share like on Evenity. Just dental! Then came Forteo, but couldn’t afford the cost so I was put on Evenity. I have Cardiomyopathy with high cholesterol & was cleared by my Cardiologist before being put on Evenity but take a daily dose of stain. But these side effects are really bad! I’m afraid too try anything else as I don’t do well with them. Thank you!

Sorry about that The dental issues happen with all of them. Oral surgeons will not pull a tooth if your on these meds Especially Reclast . You can have your preventive dental work but that’s it . If you stopped Evinity. What does your Dec Scan say . My endoccronologist warned me . Once I start . I will need to finish . Or my bones will detiotoate super fast . I’m going to do what they recommend . Don’t need any broken bones .

Yes but when you’re in excruciating pain & need a tooth pulled, you can’t wait until the drug is out of your system. My tooth was cracked after a root canal & had too be pulled. They couldn’t wait til I was off the drug. I was in agony. Everyone needs dental work & is needed on our drugs. Even taken excellent care it does happen. I don’t want any broken bones either trust me but my dental team advised me & my Rheumatologist not to back on Prolia & Evenity is making me sick as dog. Haven’t been out of this house in 2 weeks. I can’t eat, migraine headaches, heart issues & haven’t slept in weeks. Taken a big toll on my body. I even got a bad case of shingles from the stress of no sleep. Best of luck too you but please be careful.

Tymlos is the only med I have tolerated, mainly because the dose is adjustable (I ramped up and in 20 months never took a full dose, doing that now for the last two months).

But Reclast is recommended after Prolia and my doc would use it after all the drugs. Just one or two infusions and then, with monitoring, a possible med break.

I read that the dramatic drop in density happens proportional to how long you have been on Prolia so maybe just one or two doses has less of an effect.

I don't know if Tymlos would still work after one or two doses of Prolia: I have been told it is not effective after Prolia. Ditto I wonder if Tymlos would work after Evenity. I would bet research is ongoing. Maybe a doc would try that and monitor with blood tests-????

May I ask how you got through the worst 7 weeks. I’m so sick I feel like going too the ER. In my last reply, we shared a lot of the same symptoms except I’m so nauseous all the time. I can’t eat & feel the worst I’ve ever felt. I had all your side effects from Evenity plus severe nausea. That could be from the migraine headaches that I have. Never had headaches quite this severe and insomnia takes a toll on the body. If anyone has any help for me, pls drop me a line. I honestly can’t go on feeling this sick for 7 to 8 weeks. Thank you! We all have too support one another too gain as much ammunition we can too stand up too our doctors & know what’s best for our bodies. Sending hugs to all. LAB54

Have you been to your regular MD ( Internist) regarding these symptoms. I feel you might need a work-up based on the symptoms you are having, it could be from the Evenity or something else. I am truly concerned and worried for you... A few things I am thinking about need ( sorry I am a retired RN) some medical intervention now.

Thank you , I was having really bad side affects from Evinity . Headache, nausea , stiff joints etc. It went away until I started this Citrical . Now it’s back . My endocronologist Took me off Evinity . Was suppose to get it on the 8 th . Now having a blood test . I guess to make sure I don’t have calcium in my blood or too much . Before they give me the injection of Prolia . Apparently that’s the best for me . What would you recommend I have my MD do for blood work ? Thank you

An interesting question to ask anyone prescribing an osteoporosis medicatio is what they will do to help you if you are one of those with severe adverse reactions. I asked that about Evenity and was bascally told "too bad". Even saying sorry might open them up to lisbility, it seems.

No, I haven’t been too my Internist but have an appointment with my Cardiologist tomorrow regarding some of these issues. After two weeks I am starting too feel a little better but don’t know if I should continue the Evenity? I’m running out of Osteoporosis medications since I’ve been on both Prolia now Evenity. Thank you for reaching out. I greatly appreciate you! I will let you know what my Cardiologist thinks. Smarter than my Internist. LAB54

Please keep up posted on what your Cardiologist recommends. I hope you will consider not taking the Evenity due to the complications/side effects you are having. You need to think about your overall health when deciding this.... There are other medications out there that you have not tried. My thoughts are with you during this stressful situation.

dreamjean, if you need dental work hold off on the Prolia or any Osteoporosis meds. I went too 6 dental specialists & all concurred that Prolia had too be stopped. So after only one injection I had too forgo my second injection . I had no side effects except severe dental issues. I even went to Gainsville too a top specialist who told me no Prolia. After talking with my Rheumatologist she waited 2 years before trying Forteo which I couldn’t afford & put me on Evenity. But IF you need crowns, root canals or bridges do not go in Prolia until your dental issues are fixed. Trust me, these doctors who put us on these meds don’t realize how serious it is when you need dental work. Please get your dental issues all sorted out & done by a good dental specialist & then go on Prolia. Trust me on this one! Good luck & please keep me updated. Thank you, LAB54
