Very High PSA: What might cause a sudden increase?
I have 3+3 cancer PSA test every 90 days showing around a 5. I had a biopsy in Jan no change, in June I had MRA and pet scan no change. In July my PSI went up to 50.64 no sign of infection. doing another test in September 3 weeks after my scheduled colonoscopy. the only thing that has changed is I pulled a muscles in my Glute, IT band and hamstring and goin area. So I have not been able to run or exercize but my Doctor says that would not cause the PSA to go up and Ideas what could cause this ? I hate the thought of another biopsy thanks

Was the Decipher test of your biopsy possible? It would give a more accurate diagnosis of your tissues.
The PSA is high. Do you ride a bike? It will cause a higher reading and I was advised to not ride 72 hours prior to PSA test. But I am not sure it would raise it that much. What are your symptoms? They too can help with diagnosis. With my cancer I had no symptoms just rising PSA. I did not have an enlarged prostrate.
What was size of your prostrate? Was it diagnozed as above normal?
I have no symptoms first biopsy 3+3 cancer follow up biopsy no additional cancer. all 90 day PSA test were a 5 June MRI and pet scan showed no addition cancer. Then all of a sudden I get 53 PSA in July. and No I was not riding a bike I had a injury and could not run or exercise for a month before the test
If you are having PSA tests every 90 days, that must be a lab error. A negative MRI and a 50 plus PSA seem incompatible.
They did the test twice first test 50 second test 2 days s later 43
If I’m understanding you correctly you do have prostate cancer?? So a rise in the PSA doesn’t necessarily mean you have more cancer. It’s just telling you what you already know. However, you say you had A biopsy ( how many biopsies were taken ??? ) If I remember correctly I had 10 samples taken from my prostate. Biopsies are not all that bad , yea it hurts a little when they hit the prostate itself. No injuries will cause a rise in your PSA level. You are a bit confusing but a 50 PSA needs to be thoroughly checked out !!!
All things considered, remember that early detection equates to options, and options equates to reasonable path forwards for longer healthier life. During this interim period of your next test and consult with your health team, use the time to enjoy life, and get further self-educated on prostate cancer and treatment options. There are many paths forward and you'll need to be prepared to make a decision when/if a need to take action.
If your biopsy GS score was 6 (3+3) then you have a less aggressive form of cancer, but that is all relative to your age and health. I was 41 when I had GS6 with a rising PSA and I took action with surgery, whereas if I was 81 or 91 then the surgery path would not have been taken.
stay positive, invest in yourself and enjoy each day.
The 1st biopsy was targeted they took 12 samples the second biopsy was 6 months later was a random biopsy with 12 samples
If this were me...1. I know I have cancer.
2. I know my PSA is rising dramatically.
3. If Dr. Can't give a non-cancer reason for rapid rise (infection, enlarged prostate, etc.), I'd feel it's time to end Active Surveillance and decide on a treatment.
4. I'd then proceed to further testing as recommended by Doctor to decide on what treatment.
I agree, a rise from 5 to 50 in such a short time sounds VERY unusual. It must be investigated.
One thing I forgot to mention when I did my last biopsy they said my prostate had gotten bigger when I get my next test in July and it is high think the best option may be to just get the radiation I am getting tired of getting biopsy every 6 months
"The 1st biopsy was targeted they took 12 samples the second biopsy was 6 months later was a random biopsy with 12 samples".
The first one was targeted and the 2nd was random??
Well, that seems a bit odd. Can you explain?
