What does everyone take for calcium or other supplements?

Going by instructions on the bottle . Eat with it too. Well in the mornings when I wake up. I feel nauseated , and head ache , I thought this was suppose to be easy on your stomach. I about give up . Seems my body rejects everything .

Yes, 1200mg Calcium, daily, Nature's Bounty brand, plus a total of 3000 U of Vitamin D3. That may be considered a lot of Calcium, but as a Celiac, I do not absorb like other 'normals'.
Talk to your pharmacist, they are a wealth of knowledge.
Thank you, I am taking Citracal slow release . Been for almost a week . It has Vit D . I will talk to the pharmacist
This is the recommendation from my endocrinologist who I saw recently for osteoporosis.
I try to get my daily requirement of calcium (minimum of 12mg) from food sources. If I don’t get enough of that in a day I supplement with calcium citrate, approximately 333mg (one tablet in the bottle as 3 tablets equals 1000mg). On my doctor’s advice I take the supplement with a meal as he told me you need your stomach acids to metabolize the supplement with food. He also told me to never take more than 400mg at a time as that is all the body can absorb and metabolize at one time. I also take 1000 units of Vitamin D3 per day.
I am a chemist and not a biochemist but this article by AlgaeCal makes sense to me re dissolution vs absorption. Note the effect that Vitamin D plays in absorption. Far more important than the source of the calcium. And this is from a provider of a calciem supplement.

Hi, @dreamjean1958. You may also find the following information on Calcium from Mayo Clinic useful, https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/calcium-supplements/art-20047097. You can learn more about the types of calcium supplements, how to get it naturally in your diet, possible interactions and absorption.
Supplements can be a but more nuanced for some more than others. @dreamjean1958, have you talked with your provider about the side-effects you may be experiencing?
I think the reason I got osteoporosis is I didn’t find AlgaeCal til after DX - when I told self I better find some kind of calcium I could tolerate after testing about 15 a decade earlier, starting with those caramels, and finding every one upset my stomach. ( A polite way of saying I pretty much didn’t go to bathroom after a day or two.);2 things I’ve learned just recently: the magnesium that can counteract the calcium’s affect on stomach is magnesium oxide, not glycinate which I had been taking. Also an Algaecal person told me some people can’t digest the magnesium so it can’t help, they lack some kind of vitam8n B 12 and if you take that, the magnesium can do its job. You get something called P5P. I have to look for this.
I take 800-1000 mg (depends on how much calcium I get out of foods that day) Osteo K by NBI Labs. No more than 400 mg at a time. You need Vit K2 as well as Vit D to absorb the calcium. K2, simply put, helps the calcium go to your bones instead of your arteries. This particular brand has MK4 vitamin K. I also take Vitamin D and a very good multi vitamin that has all the Bs in it. I take both magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate, but not at the same time As the calcium. Throw in some Boron, zinc and copper as well as Native Path Fortibone collagen and that about gets my everyday dosage of supplements for osteoporosis that I take.
I’ve said this before somewhere on this blog. I think it’s worth repeating. Haha I repeat a lot these days!
I make my own calcium from locally sourced pastured eggshells. I bake the shells at 250 for 1 hour then grind in my coffee grinder. I mix the eggshell powder into my yogurt every morning. I also make my own yogurt from locally sourced raw milk. Guess this old hippie is going back to her old ways!
I’m following the COMB study for a year. No pharmaceuticals. It requires several common micronutrient supplements and weight bearing exercise. We’ll see in 12 months when I have my scan repeated.
Correction to my earlier post: Minimum of 1200mg per day - not 12mg.
I get really nauseated , a funny taste in my mouth . I am not sure what is causing it . A head ache too Hopefully I will figure it out . . Thanks
