Results after high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU)
Fortunately, I (@ 77 years old) qualified to ablate my 3+4 tumors on the right side of my prostate gland through a HIFU procedure. Performed @ Mayo Phoenix by Dr. Frendl's team. It's been three weeks now since surgery and I have no further tests until mid October, but, my recovery experience, to date, as follows:
• Catheter after surgery sucks but pulled after only one week so no big deal.
• No incontinence. A week, after catheter removal, I was peeing a "steady" weak stream with no starts & stops and emptying the tank. (much better than before surgery)
• No pain (except for a tender throat for about a week)
• No ED. Yep, I tested that.
I am absolutely amazed at this progress and thank my wonderful team.

Thank you for your thoughts @ozelli. I really think all input helps with others in their decision-making process. Not fun but we get through it.
I was wondering if you had to have a scan to show that there was no calcification in the prostate before the procedure and if so, what kind of scan?
CT of the pelvis, or a PET/CT PSMA scan can show the calcifications that interfere (plus if there are mets on the PSMA). This is also done with Tulsa Pro.
Why a tender throat?
They stick a breathing tube down your throat during surgery.
AZDAVE - I am wondering if you know what kind of HIFU machine they used on you at MAYO Phoenix. Was it the Sonablate500 or the other one. The reason I ask is that I understand that the Sonablate500 can treat larger size prostates than the other machine in common use, EDAP.
Thank you.
Sorry…… I have no idea. However, my results, so far, are absolutely phenomenal, and I truly believe in the ability of the “team” more than the machine they use. If I believed otherwise, I would have gone to Rochester for a Tulsa Pro treatment. All judgement calls but Dr. Frendl is great.
