Hello puddknocker .. genuinely happy for you and your faith and belief as it must be very comforting for you. For centuries the question/answer of life after death, or the unknown after death, has been discussed and pondered on by different religions, faiths, atheists, and I do think that it would be wonderful for ALL humans to be in a "place" after death, whether in human form or spirit only... with no negatives as you mention, for eternity.... no matter age, race, religion, belief and even those who caused harm to others through crime or wars etc; those who have had a lifetime of pain and suffering and those who didn't: some people believe in reincarnation .. such as our coming back to this earth as an animal ... and so on ... and as they say "there will be only one way to find out" Nice of you to share your feelings/belief on what can be a very contentious subject. I try not to pray for an end to my illnesses but for a way to cope, given that there are millions suffering a lot more than I. One day they will discover how planets and so on /creaation began, but doubt it will be in my lifetime.
...hi Brandy. I did read about how the groups started etc and I didnt really think about the types of people who would be attracted to attend; be nice if it was a Zoom meeting - then could leave more easily if not our cup of tea so to speak. I am wonering if they will cover the subject of preparing legal papers etc. for the inevitable.... after I had cancer years ago when I came home I ensured I had a will (typed my own) and for my family; and since then we have completed our Powers of Attorney for medical and financial. I even typed my obit and my spouse's. For one of my adult children its been difficult as they do NOT want to discuss illness and death but we do not have these documents typed, signed and witnessed and are kept in a safe place, otherwise it becomes a lot of work for the family members and also increases lawyer fees; and then also have to deal with government. I read a book written by an Ontario nurse who witnessed, as some of us have, how families have struggled or even had arguments about belongings, etc. or wishes of the deceased and she said that the subject does not have to be continually discussed, but perhaps have one meeting of the minds or in person and state what our wishes are, let family know, and then continue to live the best way we can.
For instance my spouse, not really "into it" and I have no idea (should he pass be fore me) where he wants his ashes scattered etc....as he doesnt care! ... whereas I do. I don't think its morbid and I dont think I am morose, just perhaps wanting all my ducks in a row so that when the time comes, my family will not be concerned with the legal paperwork and wondering what "Mum" would have liked, as I already have told them. (e.g. a celebration of life) sorry, but I have a lot to say on the matter, which I realize is not of interest to others, but just giving an example.... 💕 J.
As I understand it the Bible was written by a great many men. To me that is confusing but true. I don't read it often it but prayer is part of my daily living. I, too, don't know if He is listening?
Another part of me believes, whole heartedely, that our destiny is set in Holy stone the day we come from our mother's womb. It is predestined I believe. I may be the one of the few who believe this. One or two of my acquaintences do not believe this including my husband.
May you each have a happy and gloious day.
@lacy2, @brandysparks and @mir123, I, too, have attended a Death Cafe. I found the atmosphere to be welcoming and not intimidating. I think the name is intentionally provacative in order to "normalize" conversations about dying and death without stigma or fear.
Events happen across North America in Canada and the US. You can find more information, including event locations at this website:

...so true Colleen ... I had been referred to a site by a social worker for perhaps a chat-friend, another Senior, and on their Calendar on a web site I saw they had the Death Cafe and it did prompt me to check it if only because of its title!!
When we are born our death is inevitable and , as most, when younger I did not contemplate it; but did after cancer diagnosis years ago; and then the reality of older relatives passing.
My small family now being younger and involved in "living" do not really want to discuss it, so to find a place where it can be discussed without fear appeals to me and I can, after first listening to others, give my opinions, personal and otherwise, to that group IF it is - as I hope - and IF they accept me and my views type thing... that in September will be able to attend in person as not on Zoom and hear various thoughts from strangers and not involve my family as much.
Thank you for the information.
"One day they will discover how planets and so on /creation began but doubt it will be in my lifetime."
Actually, they have a good idea already. Google "Big Bang theory" in science not the TV show! And the big telescopes we send into space show us the light from galaxies way back in time because the distance is so great it takes a long time to reach us. "The improved resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope increased the lookback time to 13.4 billion years, and with the JWST we expect to improve on this possibly to 13.55 billion years for galaxies and stars."
The Universe is an amazing thing, and no doubt hides many mysteries. With age I have come to the belief that we do not know everything about the universe we live in and the laws of our existence and perhaps we lack the mental capacity to even understand. I find one good rule...try to leave this world a better place than you found it.
Everyone please watch The Chosen on Prime Video. You will learn much about our gentle kind loving saving Savior Jesus who is the only hope for a wonderful after life. What is required is that we each believe that Jesus is God’s Son, that he died sacrificially on a cross to take the punishment for our sins that we would have had to take (in hell), and that He rose from the grave to life on the 3rd day, defeating death for all who believe and trust in Him. Talk to Him today and give your whole heart to Him for all eternity. On Google search line, type “Colossians NLT” and read all of that. Then type “John NLT” and read all of that. Read it over and over and talk to Jesus. I promise you your life will be changed if you believe He is who He really is, and trust in Him 100%.
In the beginning God spoke His powerful Word (the holy Scriptures) into the hearts and minds of men and women, but back then the culture was that men learned a trade, protected the home and recorded (wrote) what was going on. Women cooked, did weavings, dyed fabrics. kept the home, bore children, bought produce. This is all clear if one reads the Bible. I have a Chronological Bible where everything that God inspired men to write is in the order that things happened - it can be bought on Amazon. The Word of God given to men, clearly states in John 3:16 this: “For God so loved the world, that He sent His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but will have eternal life”. In the Bible and in world history, God has kept every promise so we should and must trust Him and 100% believe in and love His Son with all our heart, mind and soul. That is why during the dying process, we can KNOW total peace bc we KNOW we will be in heaven after we die. By the way, the reason humans die is explained in the first book of the Bible -Genesis - when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the perfect sinless, garden He had made for them called the Garden of Eden. I am not a pastor or preacher. I’m just blessed to have had parents and grandparents who taught me about Jesus being The Way, The Truth and The Life, and that no one comes to God except thru Jesus, His Son. I urge everyone to start with Colossians in the 2nd half of the Bible and read it. Then read the book of John also in the New Testament. Believe me you will be so glad you did!!! We all know that our earth is having a hard time these days bc of we humans - global warming, pollution, hatred, lust for money and power, wars. We can all see that God knew in His perfect wisdom and perfect love for us all, that we need to be saved from ourselves, past, present and future. So He sent Himself as a baby, named Jesus, called His Son (bc we could identify with what the word son means), into the world so we could see Him hear Him touch Him listen to Him be changed by Him, until sinful man killed Him at age 33, but prior to that time, Jesus had shown us God’s power given us the words of John 3:16 as directions to eternal life with Him forever!! No other religion on earth has a Savior.
Believers can look forward to an eternity of being with loved ones, God and Jesus! No sin, no sickness, no sorrow or tears, no worries, no fighting, etc. if we talk to God daily and listen for His voice in our hearts and minds, our peace and joy will know no boundaries!
Thank you for your post. It is lovely and contains words for each of us to live by.
Enjoy reading posts with different viewpoints, and I always make room to listen to others' views and beliefs, and I wish others would do so with mine. We will "never" have a perfect world/on earth nor agree with everyone else's values..... and isn't it nice that we all have our own thoughts on the "hereafter" while respecting the choices/beliefs others have? Have a nice day. Be kind and if you cannot be kind, don't be unkind. J.
