@lacy2, @brandysparks and @mir123, I, too, have attended a Death Cafe. I found the atmosphere to be welcoming and not intimidating. I think the name is intentionally provacative in order to "normalize" conversations about dying and death without stigma or fear.

Events happen across North America in Canada and the US. You can find more information, including event locations at this website:

...so true Colleen ... I had been referred to a site by a social worker for perhaps a chat-friend, another Senior, and on their Calendar on a web site I saw they had the Death Cafe and it did prompt me to check it if only because of its title!!
When we are born our death is inevitable and , as most, when younger I did not contemplate it; but did after cancer diagnosis years ago; and then the reality of older relatives passing.
My small family now being younger and involved in "living" do not really want to discuss it, so to find a place where it can be discussed without fear appeals to me and I can, after first listening to others, give my opinions, personal and otherwise, to that group IF it is - as I hope - and IF they accept me and my views type thing... that in September will be able to attend in person as not on Zoom and hear various thoughts from strangers and not involve my family as much.
Thank you for the information.
