Atypical Hyperplasia hormone concern
Hello,
We have been told that after a lumpectomy we have removed the abnormal cells and with close monitoring we could continue on using hormones prescribed for post menopause. Now we are being told to go off the hormones, and my wife is very concerned that she will lose energy, not sleep well etc.
Is there a way to remain on the hormones and monitor symptoms closer? Otherwise, we should have just gotten the mastectomy procedure. It is very frustrating. Thanks for your responses.

Have you gotten a second opinion/read of pathology? I was "diagnosed" with a foci of ADH last year(along with every other possible benign lesion ). They recommended an AI. I tried for 3 weeks before developing heart palpitations( no heart issues prior), anxiety, hair falling out and more. I stopped and quite frankly my body is still out of whack. I was told I had an extreme reaction to the med. I sent my pathology to major breast center in Boston and had appointment with their high risk department(I live in NH). They did not see ADH and in fact narrowed down the results in the pathology report. They told me I am at average risk. Apparently there is a lack of consistency in determining ADH.
My gynecologist required a recent clean mammogram to prescribe HRT. That mammo led to an ADH finding, so I wasn’t able to do HRT. At the time I was hotflashing over 30x daily, having migraines, so not mild symptoms. This spring (8 years later) I found myself in the 15% with an invasive breast cancer that was 100% estrogen receptor positive. I am so grateful my doctor had strict guidelines for HRT even though I was frustrated and disappointed at the time.
I was on hormones for years and ended up with breast cancer. I got off of them in March this year and honestly do feel the effects of not having hormones. My advice would be to talk to a hormone specialist about alternatives to what she is taking. I had two spots that got biopsied and they are both estrogen positive so they grow with the estrogen. I am post menopausal. Hope this helps some.
