I am 3 years post-transplant and also gained weight. To lose it I have to stay on a diet of protein smoothie for breakfast, soup or salad for lunch and dinner 1000-1200 calories a day, and of course my stomach will never be flat again. I assume some of the weight is water weight, as my new kidney lives over my left hip and my body has created a pillow of fluids around it and consequently, across my lower abdomen. I think this is ultimately a good thing for my kidney. I have accepted weight gain as a price of admission. I watch my weight, not allowing more than the initial 10lb weight gain, eat healthy and exercise daily; and then let it go. I’m here for a short time. I am honoring my gift of life, by living a healthy lifestyle, and avoiding mirrors:)
