Translations can differ. I believe the Jewish Bible contains the Book of Esther and that the Christian does not. The books of the Jewish Bible are in a different order than the Christian. Jewish thought and religion rely on midrash or commentary on the Bible--there is no fixed text in Judaism. For example, "an eye for an eye" in rabbinic thinking means that if you injure someone you need to pay for that, whatever a court orders. I think the Jewish approach is less known than the Christian in the USA but I've been in an interfaith group for many years and learned a lot from other people. I'm Jewish, and I read the torah, psalms, and prophets almost daily. As an English speaker I enjoy the KJV but it is not that accurate from the Hebrew. More than one version is good!

@mir123 you are right in that the Jewish version of the Bible - the Torah - is different from the Christian Bible, and it is the Christian Bible I was referring to. All Christian Bibles are exactly the same with the exception of language, and the difference between the Catholic and Protestant Bibles is the Catholic Bible has all the Books (Maccabees, etc.) whereas the Protestants have left those Books out. The content, however, remains the same otherwise.

Hi. Just FYI. The Hebrew Bible is also called the Old or First Testament. The so-called 'Christian' Bible is the Old/First Testament PLUS what was written following the birth and death/resurrection of Jesus Christ (Yeshua), called the New/Second Testament The "Christian" (Protestant) Bible INCLUDES the Hebrew Bible but continues with the continued Word of G-d, written shortly after the Time of Yeshua/Jesus. The Book of Esther is included in all (Protestant) 'Christian' Bibles.
As for Rabbinic commentary, that is supplemental. The Bible speaks for itself, and to all. Your example of an eye for an eye was explained to me as meaning equal punishment, and no more. It means justice only. More punishment would be vengeance, and that is reserve only for Adonai. I was raised US Orthodox Jewish. At age 31 I encountered The Jewish Jesus. I am still Hebrew Jewish with a faith in Messiah. I didn't change religions. But I'm catagorized now as 'Christian' bc I believe in the one called Jesus. I'm also a lifelong student of the Bible and a Bible Institute graduate. I have a personal relationship with G-d. Truth is something you have to find for yourself. I learned that you can't know about the 'Christian' Bible unless you read it. There is only one 'version,' but there are several translations. Some reflect the original G-d dictated/inspired Words better then others but the message is consistent throughout. Including the continuum of the Old/First and New/Second. The Hebrew Old/First Testament has never been 'revised!' Every ancient scroll found in 1947 proved the Hebrew Testament was unchanged from the original writing. And never will be changed. The Second (New) Testament had been retranslated many times but still is consistent in message. Facts have not been changed. Only presentation has.
Enjoy your reading. I love the Psalms too. Shalom.
