Stopping Evenity Early

Posted by melanie1 @melanie1, Sep 17, 2022

I decided to stop Evenity after seven treatments because I seemed to develop increased symptoms of osteoarthritis in knees and hands while on it, in addition to generalized stiffness and joint pain. Has anyone experienced this or stopped Evenity for other reasons before completing 12 treatments?

Hello
I stopped Evenity after 7 injections. I had 5 weeks of unrelenting coughing. I could not speak, sleep or go thru a day without coughing. I had every test, steroids, antibiotics, EGD all normal. After 5 weeks it faded away. I had a DEXA and had 40% improvement in my spine. All other sites remained the same. I switched to Reclast. I’ve never had arthritis but prior to the Reclast, I developed it in my knees, wrists etc. It has altered my quality of life.
I have been encouraged to report to the FDA website. They are most concerned about fatal events. But we still have active lives to live, so let’s report so the true impact of the drug is available to others.

So sorry that you had debilitating side effects from Evenity. I decided not to take it after all of the reviews I’ve read. I feel so good physically even though I have Osteoporosis. I hate to go to feeling bad. Hopefully you will feel better on the Reclast 🙏

I finished my yearlong treatment with Evenity last month. Fortunately, I had no side effects other than tenderness in the injection sites for a day or so. I am getting my Reclast infusion next week as well as a bone scan. Really hoping for improvement in bone density. My question is whether or not I will have to have further infusions. The endocrinologist I have been seeing is not very helpful. I have read everything I can find and am really glad I found this resource. Good luck to everyone on their journey to better bone health.

Interesting. I complained about stiffness but was told that it wasn't a noted side effect, while joint pain was. My stiffness didn't last long, fortunately, and I really forgot about it until reading your post. I have an autoimmune disease that causes joint and muscle pain so whenever my hip joints bother me, I don't know what the real cause is.

https://www.pharmacytimes.com/view/adverse-event-not-the-same-as-side-effect This helps clarify the difference for those of us who are not medical professionals and who may use “side effect” and “adverse reaction” interchangeably. I do think though we get the idea…something negative happened that we didn’t hope for! Hope everyone’s outcome is a good one!

I stopped Evenity after 3 injections because I began to have problems with my blood pressure, both high and low. Also my afib which was never a problem got much worse. I also had some swelling of my eyelids. I've been off Evenity for 6 weeks now and gradually getting back to normal.

I stopped Evenity after 5 injections. I am to transition to alendronate. However , my CTX is already very low as well as my NTX and P1NP (bone turnover markers). It is almost like I did not respond to Evenity. I worry about taking the alendronate and further suppressing bone turnover. I have a metatarsal stress fracture that is still healing after 6 months. Has anyone had a similar experience with severely suppressed bone turnover? Thank you.
