Is there a Next Treatment for me?

Posted by fuzzy123 @fuzzy123, Jul 17, 2023

Diagnosed July 2022 with 6 to 9 Gleason score and 37 PSA . Had external beam radiation on my prostate and a single lymph node in my pelvic area ! Been given a 50% chance to live 5 years !!! Been on Lupron injections every 6 months and Abiraterone ( Zytiga ) for 1 year with my PSA undetectable for now !! These meds can only be taken for 2 - 2 1/2 years . Is there another option after this ?? Or is this treatment basically it ??

You need to discuss this with your medical team however, I have read on this forum that some guys go to Pluvicto after the ADT and AR stop working. My oncologist has also recommended a vegetarian diet for me as testosterone is fueled by meat. Good luck to you, we are in a similar boat and both hoping for as much quality of life as possible. Two years ago my doctors gave me 4-5 years.

Hi, just read about Pluvicto !! Possibly can buy us a little more time ✌️ Not very pleasant but it’s something !!! I apparently don’t have a team, but it’s the only team in town 🙈

Some guys have been on Pluvicto for a very long time, but I read that it is effective for about 16 months. I drive 2 hours each way to my doctors at UCLA, a couple times per month. There is no substitute for an experienced, peer review, team of specialist at highly rated facility. Self diagnosis, self treating and layman advise is certainly not adequate. As my cancer advances I am prepared to rent a furnished apartment Uber close to UCLA. Good luck to us all

I was at the cancer center 1 month ago and don’t return for 5 months !! They are happy with where my PSA level is at and that’s that !! Not that I want to go there to begin with so I will take this 5 months and try like hell to have a good time ✌️ Just the thoughts never leave my mind 🙈 Kind of ruins the good time part , but I will try ✌️ TY for talking to me ✌️

Fuzzy123,
Been down this road. Gleason 10, psa off the charts. After what you have been doing, if it stops being effective, I went on Keytruda. Sometimes Eligard works for a while. And the doctors ALWAYS seem to want to push you into chemotherapy. I have made the personal choice that the potential side effects of chemotherapy are not worth the potential benefits, but that is a decision we each have to make for ourselves. Also be aware that sometimes something will work for awhile, then becomes less effective or stop being effective. And then after a period of time your body changes and the previously ineffective treatment may become viable again. My Keytruda was discontinued as being no longer effective, but now my body and immune system has changed such that we may start it again.

There are many treatments available! You need to be your own advocate. Learn as much as you can about your disease and find the best team for you. Don’t be afraid to travel! Have you had Foundation One or Guardant 360 testing? The results can help you determine what make work for you. As far as treatments… my husband has had Casodex, Lupron, EBRT, Chemotherapy (Docetaxel), more Chemotherapy (Docetaxel + Carboplatin), SBRT, Zytiga, SBRT again, Xtandi, and now Pluvicto. He’s stage four Gleason 9 and has been fighting for over five years. He still works full time and is doing pretty well. After round four of Pluvicto, his PSA was undetectable. We are hoping for a durable response! There are lots of other treatments such as Keytruda, Radium-223, Provenge, Darolutamide, Erleada, and other treatments on the way whichare in clinical trials.

Have you looked into radiogland therapy? My Urologist/Surgeon says this treatment is a game changer for PCa.

I was told if I went that route, chemo was going to be the next step. or you may get more time on ADT by doing Zytiga 6 months on and 6 months off. Not everyone becomes resistant to ADT. There are all kinds of clinical trials out there, Better cures are on the way.

there are many prescriptions, then there are other options. i love nores717s list and testimony. there are so many novel therapies such as ursolic acid to complement mayo prescriptions. some work specifically to prevent cancer from becoming adt resistant. there are other doctors that prescribe different meds. CoC is one of those.

put your mind at rest. you are on the best, but not only option. you can manage diet and exercise and supplements and lots of how you mentally prepare. you can trust your mayo doctors and team.

we currently have no cure for prostate cancer. but we have a cure for our hearts. jesus christ. we all need that cure more than anything else.

I agree look what they done with Covid, one of my big complaints is trying to get a test run or MRIs pet scans they put you so far back on the schedule. Do you wonder why everybody goes home in for 5 o’clock in the afternoon Cancer doesn’t quit it works 24 hours a day why can’t we have more testing done in the evenings I just can’t believe there’s a shortage of that many technicians in this country, meanwhile my cancer is growing one waiting to have these tests done. I just don’t understand it. Good luck Dave.
