Foot neuropathy: What gives you relief?

Posted by kathrina @kathrina, Nov 5, 2019

It seems if I get enough activity/exercise daily I don’t have pain; if not, am awakened from sleep and must get up (even in the middle of the night). What’s going on & what more should I do to avoid rest-disruption?

I use Frankincense and Myrh (brand name) neuropathy oil. I get it on Amazon. Or the Vermont Country Store. It has worked well for me.

I have had PN for 3 years. My symptoms are either freezing cold or burning, hot feet . Tapering off Gabapentin as it hasn’t helped. Will start Pregab then. In the meantime went to physiotherapist asked about his experience with PN. After very thorough exam he feels my PN is r/t low back radiculopathy probably r/t couple old falls and r/t many years as RN… lifting, and moving patients. He suggested McKenzie method back treatment which was initiated in New Zealand where he schooled. For me, sitting straight with a roll or lumbar support at my low back to limit slumping. When I do this, the freezing cold resolves in about five minutes. Still have the burning but it’s not as bad. Also, walking is much better. Just wanted to share this with all of you. Will try the pre-gab and see what effect that has. Wishing all of my neuropathic buddies, peace and comfort. Bcool123

I also wanted to try Nerve Relief (that another poster talked of) but was too pricey. I did make up the recipe myself with the same levels of B bits, Vit d, ALA etc. Think Magnesium and Calcium needs to go with it. Ended up causing too much B6 as changed brands over time and took the wrong high dose for a while. Now limit it to B12, B9, B1, vit D, osteocare X2. and zinc. Not that that's a very limited limit😂. When nerve pain kicks my butt I put my feet on warm hot water bottle, or a wrapped ice pack. I've not have bad nerve pain for a few months now - feels like Christmas when it doesn't happen. Feels like hell when it does. Can cope with rest of back pain, limited mobility etc but lose my mind when nerve pain comes. Gentle hugs and hopes to you all .

I have the same thing. I notice when I do house work & are moving around I feel better but once I sit down the pain starts & doesn't go away. I am on 500 mg of Gabapentin & taking Cymbalta & they keep increasing the Gabapentin & it helps for a week & then the pain is back. I give up & I am not going to increase it anymore. Do you have to keep increasing the Imipramine like you do Gabapentin? I'm at my witts end & don't know what to do. Can this condition make your blood pressure rise? Mine has been going up & i do take meds for that. I have no idea how I got this but I do have back problems with the disks & was in a car wreck 10 years ago. I guess there is no way of knowing for sure. Please let me know if the Imiprinine helps? Thank you. best of luck to you. Genie

I suggest you get an MRI of your spinal cord/vertebra. It'll rule out a pinched or compressed nerve is not causing your neuropathy.

Your right.
The MRI does show pinched nerve & I saw a dr. & he said I need spacers in my back.
Do you know anything about that. I am 73 years old & hate to have surgery & long recovery, if it isn't going to help.
Sorry for getting back to you late.
thank you.

I am 77 and need the same surgery. I'm hesitant because back surgery is always a roll of the dice. So, I live with the numbness and pain as best I can.

I, as well have back issues and take shots every 3 to 6 months for relieve from my pain management doctor. Every time I have gone into the prep room I hear someone who has had back sugery and is still having to go for numbing shots in the spine. Myself? I will NOT have back surgery. The risks are too great no matter how wonderful the surgeon.

Do you think neck fusion is bad too bc I need my neck fused & a shoulder replacement.
My legs are the worse pain for me bc I have the needles & pins all the time. never goes away.
I don't have 1 day that passes that I am not in pain.
