Smart Vest…Possible alternative
I have to return my smart vest set up because it exacerbates my costochondritis. But the same company sent me this information on another product they make so I am posting it here in case any of you would like to check into it for yourselves. I’m going to talk to my doctor, Dr. Swenson when I see him on the 20th about it and what he thinks of it. Has anybody heard of this or experienced it in anyway? I would love to know. Thank you Bon

I just posted some thing about the Velora and I want you to see what I found online so I tried to delete it but if you saw the post on Volara please look at what I am posting now. I did not realize it was recalled…so sorry.

@healthybon a number of people here use Volara but HillRom is pretty good about communicating with patients. Different vest did not work for me either due to rib pain. Younger folks seem to tolerate the vests ok. Exercise and clearance are mainstays of treatment for me.
@healthybon Hello, I’m new here, first time commenting. I will tell my story soon, so I may ask Bronchiectasis/MAC advice, questions. But I saw your comment on the Hill-Rom The Vest Airway Clearance System, and inability to use the vest. When it was prescribed for me, a woman came to train me how to use it. I realized that I wouldn’t be able to use the full vest. I have scoliosis and disc trouble, lupus, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and it hurt too much, really beat me up. I called Hill-Rom and they sent me a “wrap” instead. Much better tolerated most days, although I do have to sometimes wait until after I’ve been up a while so not so stiff and sore, or have taken my pain med. Told me to set it at a lower setting. I’ve used it for several years now. Although I’m sure it’s not as effective as the full vest, I feel it helps with clearance, better than no use at all. Just thought I would put that here as a possibility. The Aerobika didn’t seem to offer much help, so I put it away. I may try it again. Also, I see that this recalled Volara might not be totally recalled after all, if I read your second link right? It had some provisions, I think, if one kept using it. (Not sure I read the end portion right. Will have to go back and reread.) Have you tried the wrap since you have the Hill-Rom machine? Patricia
Sorry my comment is so long! I tried to edit, but it had been longer than 30 minutes, I guess. Like I said, new here, still trying to find my way around. 😊
I have used the Volara for a year now. Yesterday I spoke with a clinical person there. She said that the recall was for people who used oxygen with the Volara and that they had worked with those individual patients to let them know what they needed to do. So, not a general recall. Phew
