I had a right hemicolectomy in May 2016 laparoscopically. In March 2016, I had a screening colonoscopy finding a large flat polyp that could not be removed. The GI did take a biopsy of it. He told me after the procedure that I would have to have surgery to remove the right side of my colon regardless of whether it was cancerous or not, so I knew I was facing surgery. It did turn out to be cancerous, but fortunately stage one. I had no radiation or chemo. Do you know if any cancer was found in your lymph nodes?

As you heal, the grassiness should improve. Avoid carbonated drinks and foods that are high formal (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, beans of any sort). Walking also helps alleviate the gas.

Except for the small scar I have, I would not know that half of my colon is gone. No change in bowel habits or diet. Since you had an open surgery, I imagine your recovery will take longer, but it should get better.

I know from the CAT scan that there is no other cancer, but two lymph nodes are enlarged but not pathologic. ( I believe that is what the report said)
I have surgery scheduled for next Wednesday. My surgeon said it looked like a regular colon cancer, and it was caught early.
Hoping for the best……I still am scared, worried, focusing on every twinge. My surgery will be robotic and they will remove my appendix and the ascending colon and the lymph nodes near the major blood vessel.
Hoping your surgery goes well!♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for sharing your story!

Thanks for replying, The 13 lymph nodes were negative so that's good news, I have my PET scan done this week so my treatment will depend on that outcome and my labs. See the oncologist again on the 10th.
It's been 4.5 weeks since surgery and I continue to heal, no major issues. Just seem to have an area of discomfort on right side, right at the bottom of ribs not sure what that is. Everything else is going fine.
