Barrett’s esophagus

Have you tried organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar? Try one tsp in 6oz glass water and start slowly and add little more after one week, or you can buy Acid Indigestion Relief by Maty's from Amazon. It has good reviews. I have been ill for 4 years. Got better twice but; I started having coffee and bacon and pastry and got sick again. This time I am not getting better and waiting for an Endoflip procedure end of July. Cant take any PPIs or H2 Blockers due to having candida. They told me I don't have Gerd. I don't have any regurgitation, or warm chest. Sometimes food gets stuck in esophagus if I don't chew well. I have gastritis. Try vinegar and see what if you get better. You can also try Gaviscon or Mylanta.

Why are you poring acid down your throat? Talk about irritating your esophagus. Vinegar is acid.

Advice: If you are going to have an endoscopy to check for Barretts, make sure it's done by a GI specialist who knows what areas to biopsy. I was diagnosed with Barretts after I had an endoscopy by a family practice doctor because I was having stomach pain. One of the biopsies showed Barretts (found early with no pre-cancer cells) so I was referred to a GI dr who prescribed Pantoprazole. After a year, my GI dr did another endoscopy and found no Barretts. He said the dr who did my first endoscopy may have biopsied too close to my stomach and picked up some of those cells in error, meaning I never actually had Barretts, or a year on Pantoprazole may have cleared it up. He said I could wean off the Pantoprazole, but I wasn't able to do so without acid reflex so I'm on the lowest dose available, 20mg. My GI dr said Barretts is monitored so closely it rarely progresses to esophageal cancer. At this point, my GI Dr said I don't need another endoscopy for three years.

I was diagnosed with Barrett's in 2018 and went on 40mg of Pantaprazole and watched my diet very strictly. I had another EGD in 2020 and there was no sigh of Barrett's. I went off of my PPI this year on the Dr.s order and will get another EGD in October to check my Barrett's.

How did you taper off Pantaprozole? I am taking 20mg and no longer have Barretts but when I tried to taper off, my acid reflux and stomach pain came back so I had to go back on it.

I took Pantaprazole every other day for 2 weeks and then quit it all together.
I really watch my diet and dont drink booze or soda.

I have trouble with my GI Tract for many years now and have to have a EDG every two years which worked until now. I had one in April of this year that did not work so I had it repeated on the 14th of this month. Concerned because after three days it went back to the same symptoms. Not being able to swallow large amounts of foods, pills, nasty taste in mouth and regurgitation of the mouth and nose. I have severe chest pain especially at night and heart burn. I am wondering if there's anything else that can be done for me. I am also going through a rare form of Breast Cancer at this time.

@mcosby01, how are you doing? Any resolution on your symptoms or the cause?

I have had barrett's esophagus for 25 year's. They have done nothing for it at all. I believe the last 5 years he said it has dysplasia. But that is the least of my worries. I have so many other things wrong, gastroparesis with chronic nausea, chronic pancreatitis that I get a egd and eus every 2 months with a celiac block to the pancreatic nerves. I am on a feeding tube and pump fed into my small intestine. I have horrible bile reflux that has scared my esophagus really bad. I also have severe malabsorption and suddenly lost 15 pounds 3 months ago. I can't seem to put any of the weight back on. I am 5'5 and weight 96 pounds, my bmi is 15. I hate it. I made my doctor put me on pancreatic enzymes and they seem to be slowly helping but make my entire digestive system feel horrible and cramps really bad. My doctor hasn't ran any tests on me in over 10 years yet when I told him I think we need to see what is going on with my pancreas he said I was at the end of the road? How can he say that without even running tests? I am sure my pancreatic duct and common bile duct are blocked again. I'm getting a 2nd opinion at Shands hospital, I can't believe that at 63 now I'm done. I don't know how you can say that without looking at labs or looking inside my pancreas and checking my ducts. Any ideas would be appreciated. But my barrett's esophagus doesn't bother me.
