They did a barium swallow… And to be honest with you I can’t honestly answer your question because it seem like they suspected it. I’m not really clear other than that. I didn’t talk very long to the Gastro because he was so nasty and intimidating so I guess they think it’s from that. I am going to order a bed that I think it’s about $600 I can let you know what it is I already Have a mattress to put on it. I like the Ambra it’s sturdy and strong… I know it sounds crazy that I don’t know for sure if it’s the reflux but there are some unanswered questions after going there… I’m going to talk more to Dr Swenson when I see him on the 20th about it. What does he think. I’m not sure how do you know if it’s 30° maybe Google

Most likely they do not know for sure if GERD is the cause per say. I think that may be rather simplistic if they do but then I am certainly no expert. I do know for me there were a lot of factors involved around the time my symptoms began decades ago. I had repeated bad chest colds one after the other, low D3 levels and or immunity at that time, life long GI issues so most likely also some silent reflux? A perfect storm? Who knows. I already have a good bed frame and mattress that adjust so all set there. Just find it hard to determine the 30 degrees and that seems like a lot if you want to sleep on your side! Too bad about the GI Dr. Sounds like a cardiologist I saw who spoke to me in a manor he would not have had I been male.

Thank you for that very informative and helpful note! I am sharing some thoughts in the hopes of helping.

Do you take any GERD meds? I found Nexium or Gaviscon to help tremendously. Since, by definition, you don't feel or notice GERD, it doesn't mean it's not happening and affecting the lungs. However, Gaviscon can interfere slightly with antibiotic effectiveness if it's not taken 2 to 3 hours from them (I googled and found that out). I also recommend lots of water with any of the Big 3. I wonder if GERD meds would make those med more tolerable for you (?) But I do understand. Many can't tolerate these. By the way, I am convinced my bronchiectasis was caused by the GERD, but I do agree that other contributors can be involved, and it's good to be cautious. I could not get a single doctor even to speculate on the cause of my bronchiectasis.

I believe you will find the bed being raised really helpful with the GERD. It's made a big difference for me.

Thank you especially for sharing your comments about the rude medical person. I am experiencing a similar situation with my Infectious Disease doctor.

I hope the best for you!
