Has anyone improved bone density without meds?
I have a very problematic dental history and will continue to need additional root canals and implants. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome and want to avoid any drugs that cause rheumatic symptoms. Other issues in my health history make all of the meds risky for me. That said, I work out almost daily, lift weights, maintain a healthy diet, take all the recommended supplements, and get most of my calcium nutritionally. My endocrinologist wants me to take an infusion/injectable drug. I dread the side-effects, yet I'm afraid of fracturing, which hasn't happened over the many years I have had osteoporosis. That said, my numbers are getting worse (-3.2 spine, -3.1 hip). I need to do something more than I've been doing, and am at a loss. I need hope and solutions I can be at peace with. Thanks for any comments or suggestions!

Does anyone know how long Evinity takes to work ? Just wondering because had a cervical fusion 4 yrs ago . Just had x ray . Saids severe Ostopenia . So what am I suppose to take ? Apparently Estrogen is suppose to help that. That can cause cancer . I get Evinity 1 x a month . . I believe I’m going on # 5 . Very frustrating . I also take Collagen , Calcium w Vit D . I’m tired of this . Sure is Frustrating .

Check out new book by R. Keith McCormick DO who has dealt with severe osteoporosis personally. A lot of great information both holistic and meds. I did 11 mos of Evenity and had terrible muscle and joint pain. It’s gotten a lot better but stopped injections in February and aching and stiffness is still resolving. Hoping this isn’t a forever adverse reaction as no one seems to be able to tell me. This book Great Bones is a must read I think. Hope this helps you!

1 ReactionThank you , I can’t stop Evinity . I was told that when I met with my endocrinologist. He said I’m committed to a yr. Otherwise your bones rapidly deteriorate . Like fast . I have to take Prolia after this . I have muscle aches . Not sure if from that or not . I’ve heard of Dr Keith . I don’t have 100s of dollars . My understanding is early menopause. Plays a part in osteoporosis . So I had that . I need Estrogen . Maybe something holistic

3 ReactionsYou can take Reclast after Evenity and maybe take breaks. Prolia cannot be stopped without bone loss and fracture risk so people go on Reclast after that anyway.
It's Keith McCormick. His consultations are $300 but his books are online and very helpful. He wrote "The Whole Body Approach to Osteoporosis" and "Great Bones."

3 ReactionsWhat does your doctor say about estrogen patch? I had early menopause at forty and was on the patch for thirty yrs. Now off for a few yrs and severe osteoporosis. All the other choices are frightening!!

1 ReactionI haven’t discussed it with him . They don’t like giving estrogen because it increases your cancer risk . Than they give you progesterone to counteract the estrogen. It makes no sense . So did you have osteoporosis before you quit the patch ? That seems really fast for it to get really bad . Your right everything is frightening .

2 ReactionsI had early menopause at 40 too. They gave me estrogen and than progesterone . Sounds crazy. My Ins said no not covered. There is other ways to treat menopause . Cant win . What did the older generations do ? None of these meds were around .

2 ReactionsWonder why he would put me on Prolia than. Rather than Reclast . They already screwed up. Had me on Forteo. Never was put on anything after that. Surgeon prescribed it. You don’t see surgeons after so long . It’s crazy. Now I’m suffering for their screw up.
