Belly and scrotum swelling post robotic assisted RP

I had that same experience, so I am guessing yes, it's normal stuff. My penis and scrotal swelling came with severe black and blue discoloration. It was scary, but not all that painful and had subsided in another few days, especially after the catheter was removed. My wife became much more knowledgeable about my genitals that first two weeks post op, whether she wanted to or not. And 6 incisions seems to be the standard with RALP. I am now five months post-op and still trying to get my stomach muscles back to where they once were.

The post-op handout my surgeon gave said to expect all that. The scrotal and penile swelling and discoloration has to do with how fluid flows along the "fascial planes" in the body, reflecting the buildup of fluid in the surgical area itself. The belly swelling represents fluid arriving to help with the healing process. Also, the removal of the lymph nodes disrupts fluid flow in the pelvis. All perfectly normal. For me, the bruising disappeared after 10-12 days, the swelling took 3-4 weeks.

Hydrating and walking help a lot, along with extra sleep.

As my surgeon left my hospital room, the day after the surgery, he told me to walk to reduce the swollen belly, and to squeeze the scrotum to reduce it’s swelling.

I didn’t seem to have much swelling or bruising . My catheter was removed 6/22/23.
In @ a day or two everything got better for me. Still using max pads with pull up but just ordered medium pads as this has improved. Recliner sitting is much more comfortable than just try to sit yet. I believe the max pad puts more pressure down there. Hopefully the smaller pads will help with this. I wish you two fast healing as I know a man is not in this alone, a wife is right there and going through this to.

I'm having my RALP on the 18th of July, My wife is an RN, she suggested A support (jock strap), anybody out there use one?

For me, the less pressure down there the better. I had a RALP in November 2022 and used the most comfortable adult diaper I could find.

I did not have these SEs. PT for Kegel edu before; and following. Walked 20 mins daily, in 5 min increments in the house until catheter removal. Continue walking. Listen to your Drs re lifting restrictions. Good luck.

I was like you the less pressure the better.

My husband had his catheter out on Friday, 6/30. His underwear of choice for a few years has been 2 Undr, a snug boxer with pouch that he says keeps everything in the garage! These work great for tucking a pad into the pouch. However, we are on long road trip back to Phoenix from Rochester so he opted for full pant Depends. Working ok.
