I need cataract surgery. I have postponed had it scheduled and canceled 2 different times in the last 9 months because of the need to bend, cough vigorously to clear the thick mucus from my airway.
I have clearance from my pulmonologist. She said that she could order some antibiotics to take during and be less aggressive with airway clearance.
The instructions for post-op includes bending: ' not having the head below the heart.'
Vision is getting worse. Any suggestions from those who have had cataract surgery and bronchiectasis would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

No cataract surgery - but - at one point I seriously considered sinus surgery. ENT said for 1 week no bending over. Through patient portal I communicated with ENT surgeon outlining my clearance routine exactly. He responded telling me exactly what I could do and not do. I worked with pulmonologist to find alternatives. As long as you keep SUPER hydrated, take NAC or Mucinex, albuterol, neb 7% saline, add prophylactic antibiotics to the mix, I suspect you'll be ok. Most of my clearance is in a seated position using autogenic drainage via AD app (available in app stores). Sometimes I lay down on either side and self-percuss but never is my head below my heart. Maybe you could practice with the new routine before surgery and see how it works. People who have had cataract surgery love their new light! Good luck.

My ophthalmologist says he can't do cataract surgery unless I lie flat. That causes me to cough. He says to talk to pulmonary and perhaps they will put me in hospital with anesthesia and tube down my throat. Anyone run into this?
