Good morning Katelyn. One thing I do know for sure is that your mom is immensely proud of of you. She’s able to see first hand the amazing young woman you have become with how you’re handling her illness and taking on the huge task of battling an insurance company for coverage for her.

You’re being tossed into ‘adulting’ very quickly with being your mom’s champion for finding a diagnosis in hopes of having her get healthy again. It’s positive that your mom has good health insurance and it sounds like she is getting great critical care at the U of M. But so frustrating when you live near Rochester and the insurance won’t extend to the Mayo Clinic.
My knowledge of insurance and how to arbitrate for coverage is limited so I’m not the right person for assistance there. I do have a friend who was able to get coverage for a 2nd opinion at Mayo by talking to one of the benefits experts with her insurance company. So hopefully you’ll be successful for your mom for another professional opinion.

When did the worst of these symptoms start with your mom? It’s like something is being missed but she’s certainly gone through a litany of testing and coming up short with a diagnosis. Could this be something unusual like Celiac artery compression syndrome?
Is she in pain, besides the awfulness of constant nausea and vomiting? Does she ever feel better such as after eating or does that bring on any pain or discomfort?

@loribmt I can’t even begin to put into words how thankful I am for you! I looked into the celiac artery compression syndrome (MALS) for days and everything lined up into place. I had to go to numerous doctors and fight for an angiogram. One doctor was finally willing to listen to me and did the angiogram…. today I got the call. My mother has MALS and they are looking for a surgeon to do surgery. There is an end in sight and my mother can stop deteriorating away, I can stop worrying every second of the day that I am going to lose her to an unknown cause. Soon enough my mothers suffering and pain will come to an end and I owe it all to you. You helped me save her life and I cannot thank you enough. Seriously from the bottom of my heart, thank you for caring enough about a stranger and her daughter to reply. I don’t know when surgery will be but I will update you afterwards to let you know how she is doing. Thank you again!
With love, Katelyn 🙂
