Leoprolide and Tamoxifen effectiveness of reducing cancer reoccurrence
I am 41 and pre-menopausal, had invasive ductal carcinoma. Hormone and estrogen positive, HER2 negative. I had a bilateral mastectomy. My oncotype came back as 21 which is 7% chance of reoccurring (just over the no chemo needed scale). If I do chemo it will lower my reoccurrence less than 1% (btwn 6% and 7%) so I don’t think it is worth it. My other option is Leoprolide but there is no data to show how effective it is and if it will lower my chance of reoccurring. Does anyone have any data on the reoccurrence rate? Has anyone taken Leoprolide and what were your symptoms? I am not sure it is worth doing since my reoccurrence is 7% and there is no data to prove this will lower it at all. I may just take the TAM and hope it is worth it. Thanks for listening.

You and I have very similar journeys, except my oncotyoe was a 6, no chemo. I just got my first Lupron shot last week and Tamoxifen will be here in a few days. I'm thinking of waiting to start the Tamoxifen until I've been on shot for at least a month so I will know side effects of shot vs not knowing which is causing which symptoms.
I will only be doing the shot for 3 months then will be having ovaries out instead.
I have no data on reoccurring rates, but can keep you updated on my symptoms.
If you take leoprolide, is an aromatase inhibitor possible or is Tamoxifen the med of choice?
My Oncotype was 16, grade 3 and I had 3 out of 4 rounds of chemo and regret it. Was planning to go on Tam but curious what others have chosen.
I take zoladex and tamoxifen. They’re fine. I have bad hot flashes but otherwise no remarkable symptoms. I didn’t have an oncotype though, and went through 8 rounds of dose dense chemo. Finished a year ago today. 😊
My doctor said that in pre menopausal women, the zoladex shot combined with tamoxifen is very effective.
Although I didn’t have an oncotype, and my cancer was early and all removed with surgery, I still opted for chemo. It really wasn’t as bad as I expected and I cold capped to keep some hair. I wanted to do everything I could to prevent reoccurrence, but my cancer almost mimicked triple negative. It was low estrogen positive and negative for progesterone and her2.
Hi. Let me know if you would like to connect on this. I would love to hear your thoughts. (I messaged on another page too). Thanks!
