I had Invasive Lobular Carcinoma and DCIS diagnosed Jan 2023 followed by lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node removal, 16 radiation treatments and am now on 1mg Anastrozole (Estrogen/progesterone +) for 5 years. All healed up and no side effects(other than mild hot flashes controlled by dressing in layers!). Drink lots of water and exercise daily- tai chi, zumba, weight machines, bike, dog walk. Feeling positive!
I was diagnosed with DCIS in January 2023 and had a lumpectomy with good margins, progesterone and estrogen +. I am 68 years old and decided
not to do any radiation. I take tamoxifen 20 mg/ day. My only side effect has been hot flashes, which are not too bad. There are many worse diagnoses-stay hopeful and positive!
I was diagnosed with DCIS, nuclear grade 3 in Jan 2023. Had a lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy; followed by 20 sessions of radiation. No drugs due to very low estrogen/progesterone %s.
I think the key thing to consider is that there are a few variations of DCIS and it’s important to understand your personal pathology to determine the best course of treatment for you. Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions. The Mayo Clinic site, cancer.org and the Memorial Sloan Kettering sites all have very useful information
Was diagnosed with multi focal DCIS in November 2022. Had bilateral mastectomy January 2023. They removed two lymph nodes on each side, all clear. Was back to running, weight lifting and all my normal activities by March. No need for radiation or hormone inhibitors.

I was so encouraged to read your story and that you're doing so well and are back to your fun and regular activities! I was diagnosed with DCIS grade 2 in Feb., 2023 and just underwent a bilateral mastectomy 4 days ago at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix! (Area of concern was too large for a lumpectomy) I am feeling so much better than I anticipated after this procedure, which was my very first surgery ever in my life. I also had the sentinel lymph nodes biopsied during the procedure and am thrilled that all came back clear as well! No radiation or meds needed- just time to heal up, which is going quite nicely so far!

Yes it amazed me how well the healing went. I will say I had quite a bit of lymphatic cording, but I got in with a physical therapist who specialized in lymphedema and cording issues as soon as I got my drains out. She was fantastic. I still do my stretches every day just to keep things loose, but can honestly say at just over 5 months post surgery and I feel as good as I did pre-surgery.
Yes I also had DCIS with bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction just a year ago. Drs never told me I'd have swelling in arms or pain on sides of chest wall. It was a yr later I was referred to an OT that helps me now with lymphedema & she's awesome! I couldn't function without her. The reason for my radical surgery was pressure from my gene test. Positive for CHCK2- the multiple cancer gene.
Since then I had my thyroid removed in April, due to a cancerous nodule.
I had a DCIS diagnosis July 2022. Surgery for lumpectomy, followed by radiation.

Yes. Just had lumpectomy and will start radiation soon. What are your questions?

Unfortunately receptors at the biopsy did not have progesterone and estrogen, so I am not eligible for the pill so I will have to have radiation
