IBS and vegetarian diet?
I have IBS and flare-ups typically involve multiple bowel movements and/or urgency. I eat everything but live with my son and daughter-in-law who are vegetarians. They don’t impose this upon me or their 7 year old son. My problem is my tolerance for the legumes that usually substitute for meat. For example, last night my daughter-in-law made a delicious lentil loaf which I enjoyed but I’m a mess today - used peppermint oil capsules, ginger, and finally resorted to Imodium. It’s a real pain to cook only for myself and not partake of meals that she prepares or that I cook for them to eat. Has anyone else managed a vegetarian diet with this condition ?

I love this. Yes, let’s do more talking, less eating , and more substantial actions. Thanks for the admonition.
Please give some good options for plant base to put in everyday eating or good book to purchase
If you want to eat total plant based, vegan, then use this mantra “ If it has a face or a mother, don’t eat it”. The China Study by T Colin Campbell is an in-depth read as to why to eat plant based. I don’t eat totally plant based. I tried, just doesn’t work for me.
Yuck!
I was diagnosed with renal disease several years ago and my nephrologist asked if I could try a vegetarian diet. I agreed and went "almost vegan" -I do eat eggs from a friend's free-range hens and rarely an "accidental" dairy product in bread if I can't obtain my dairy free bread. I was able to go off dialysis and somewhat reverse my renal failure and manage my diabetes better. Two years ago I was diagnosed with gastroparesis secondary to diabetic damage to GI nerves and possibly the vagus nerve and this has complicated my meal plans since many of the veggies I previously ate I no longer can have and I now have to divide daily food intake into 5 or 6 small meals. However, kidney function continues to improve slowly and I am taking less than a tenth of the insulin I used to need.
I guess it's a matter of what works for each of us. For me, a vegetarian diet has improved my life.
Hello @parrot53. You will notice I have moved your post into another discussion on vegetarian diets, which you can find here:
