Is 72 too old to develop Inflammatory Breast Cancer?

I’m 73 and am being tested soon for Inflammatory Breast Caner (IBC). My husband has convinced himself that I don’t have it because of my age. I like to be armed with as much info as possible. Can I develop IBC at my age?

Apparently more common in younger women. I hope you ask a doctor who can determine if you have it!

Risk factors
Factors that increase the risk of inflammatory breast cancer include:

Being a woman. Women are more likely to be diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer than are men — but men can develop inflammatory breast cancer, too.

Being younger. Inflammatory breast cancer is more frequently diagnosed in people in their 40s and 50s.

Being black. Black women have a higher risk of inflammatory breast cancer than do white women.

Being obese. People who are obese have a greater risk of inflammatory breast cancer compared with those of normal weight.

Mammo and ultrasound show fatty breast necrosis stemming from previous surgery several years ago. Prayers were answered.

Not as bad as IBC maybe, but it doesn’t sound great. I am so glad you pursued this. Is there a plan for treating it?

Know. I emailed my PC’s office asking for their opinion. They called back at 7:30 tonight ( !!!) saying they are requesting the records and want to see me Monday. I’m so fortunate to have such a caring and dedicated doctor.
