Neuropathy & GI Bloat/Discomfort

Posted by Debbie @dbeshears1, Feb 12, 2022

Good morning - my neuropathy of 5 years has come with a lot of GI discomfort, pressure and bloating pretty much non-stop, though GI function is relatively normal. The only drug added to my care when my idiopathic PN started was Gabapentin. Does anyone have suggestions on what may be working for them? Thanks all

Hi ,sorry to hear your son is suffering.
Is he diabetic?
Hope you can find some answers.
I think my stomach / bowel issues are vascular related as much worse after food but GP treats me for nerve pain on amytriptaline.

I’m glad that you found some thing that is helping you! My son had a bad reaction to any kind of anti-depressant the SRI’s did not do him any favors. In fact, he never exhibited nerve pain until he took a prescribed anti-depressant. All the doctors are saying it has nothing to do with it, but I am very unsure of that answer. Wish you all the best and we keep striving to find something to help.

I forgot to answer your question, he is not diabetic. It came on shortly after being prescribed anti-depressant.

Hi, So many drugs cause neuropathy. If I find in my research that a drug my doctor wants me to take can have that side effect my doctors say either they’ve never seen it in a patient or it’s not possible. Not even open to the possibility. If you wouldn’t mind telling me, what antidepressant caused this for your son?

Hi there. Not sure if this is helpful. I didn’t realise I had a spur going from c6 into my spinal cord until someone cracked my neck and I was paralysed in some areas. At the same time onion garlic and many other foods sent me straight to the bathroom. As soon as they removed the spur I could eat everything. Weird I know but apparently our gut and spinal cord is formed at the same time so it made sense to someone as to why I was better after my neck was done. I still suffer from Bloating but worked out most is a Wheat intolerance.
Hope it helps in some small way. Take care

There were actually two he was prescribed. One was clonazepam (a benzo) and the other I believe was Lexapro.
