I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease via endoscopy
I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease via endoscopy (mild villi blunting), yet my blood tests all came back normal. Why would this be and can the endoscopy diagnosis still be trusted?

Hi @gfamy, welcome to Connect.
I think you would be interested in this thread https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/was-my-gluten-challenge-too-short-my-daughter-tested-very-positive-for/ where other Connect members are talking about celiac testing. @LeeAase @DKFusion any thoughts?
@gfamy, what led to your having an endoscopy?
I did read that one @colleen_young. My gluten challenge was about 6 weeks. I had GI issues for years, went gluten free (at least as much as I could with what education I had) and felt a bit better. Chronic constipation returned after a surgery this fall and my surgeon sent me to GI at Mayo to try to find the cause. My PCP had attributed it all to SIBO but the SIBO fluid aspiration that Mayo did came back negative for overgrowth. From what I've read the bloodwork being negative is a bit rare. Wondering if anyone has any insight into this.
Hello @gfamy,
We took your question to Dr. Joseph Murray, gastroenterologist and celiac disease expert at Mayo Clinic. You can view his video response and read the post on Mayo Clinic's celiac disease blog, here: http://mayocl.in/2hA3uu9
