Thank you for posting this "good news" story!
I have been trying to research this topic since being diagnosed with a low grade, early stage tutor five years ago. I opted for a bilateral mastectomy after losing a sister thirty three years ago to this disease.
While this news is encouraging I would be more interested in statistics for 10 - 20 year survival rates for early er+ node neg breast cancers. I’ve been reading some studies on late recurrence of early stage cancers which lay dormant for decades then metastasize without warning. The 5 year anniversary can give some a false sense of security. Patients, like me, in this category may be be highly encouraged to continue their AIs for more than 5 years. You must remain vigilant for the rest of your life.
Can you share any studies? I hear about this anecdotally but have not found research on it.
Thank you!!
In addition to many websites that provide information, I follow ascopost.com. It is the website for the American Society of Clinical Oncologists that just had their annual meeting in Chicago. They had more information on a new drug from Novartis when added to other hormone receptor meds has had positive results for early stage breast cancer.
Thank you for posting this second link everyone can visit.
Isn’t this great news! Yes, we all still have a risk of recurrence as long as we live but knowing most of us can survive the five is still so much more encouraging than just a few decades ago.
We’ve come a long way baby!
I’m not great at copying links on my iPad. Two articles I read were on VeryWell.com and Breastcancer.org. There are several others.

Excellent article on breast cancer.org. I have a friend who at 84 just had a lumpectomy for ERPR+, HER2 - 16 years after her original treatment with surgery, chemo and radiation. It can happen. She continued with her mammograms even though her physician did not recommend them. Good for her and all the others who know what’s best for them.
Thank you!!
