I had a car accident once and my doctor recommended a CT or MRI (I just don’t recall which one he ordered) and my insurance wanted me to go to PT first; so I went to PT. When I went back to my doctor to get a new script for the CT or MRI and he was furious! He informed me about the damage that the therapy could have done by not having the studies done first. My doctor’s comment was, “The next time your insurance company decides to direct what needs to be done for your condition, have THEIR doctor, contact the doctor who is actually treating you.” He told me that a person in an insurance office should not be the person determining what you need …..your doctor does that. I always remember how mad he was. I have not run into this situation again so I am curious if my doctor followed up with the insurance company.
I figured I would share this with you because it does seem odd that an insurance company changed the direction of the doctor’s recommendation for a CT scan. Good Luck!
